Ben Schrank, Barney Kalver and R. B. Allison returned last evening from a business trip at Fort Wayne. All the section men of the Erie were laid off for four days or until June 1, except the foremen. No cause was assigned. There will be a meeting of the baud this evening at the city hall at eight o’clock. All members are earnestly requested to be present. The annua] dinner of the Young Matrons club will be given this evening at six o’clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Smith, west Monroe street. Mrs. W. H. Nachtrieb and Mrs. Florence DeVilbiss are at Elwood attending the opening of the Carnegie Library, and will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Moffett. Mrs. Harry Cordua and son, Mrs George Roop and son, Mrs. A. Graham and son and Mrs. Steele went to Monroe this morning to spend the day with friends. Word comes from Winchester that Mr. Hopkins, who was dangerously ill with heart trouble, is somewhat better and that there is hope for his recovery.—Berne Witness. Wayne, while here they were guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Murphy. Fred Reppert and wife are here from Vera Cruz attending Zion meetings and will remain until after Decoration Day visiting relatives, of which not a few reside here. A letter from Eugene Christen who is at Hot Springs, Arkansas says that he has been very sick for a week past but is feeling better again and believes he will get along allright. June Ist is the date of an entertainment that will be given at the St. Mary's Catholic church. The Catholic doctrines will be illustrated with one hundred beautiful colored pictures and accompanied by an explanatory lecture. The entertainment will be good and well worth spending an hour’s time to see.
