THE WHOLE THING Man is Supreme and lias Right to Beat His Mother-in-Law. Tho supreme court has decreed that the husband is the head of the family. He may choose any reas- ' onable place or mode of living and the wife must conform thereto. The husband may decide who shall be the visitors at the home even if the wife owns the Lome. In the Erie county case of the state of Ohio against Oscar Green, the interesting question if a man may keep his mother in law out of his home was brought to tho attention of no fewer than four courts. It all grew out of a domestic quarrel. Oscar Green did not want his mother in law, Mrs. Martha Hibblethwaite, to visit him and his wife at their home. He gave the mother in law due notice to that effect. But with the perversity attributed to mothers in law in general Mrs. Hibblethwaite went to the Green domicile. Tho son in law mot her at the door and refused to let her enter. The evidence is conflicting as to what then transpired. On the one hand it is claimed that Green struck her; on the other hand that he pushed her from the door. Mrs. Hibblethwaite caused the arrest of her son in law. He was found guilty in the probate court and was fined $lO and costs for assault and battery. The common pleas court affirmed the finding and the circuit court reversed the action, on the ground that Green i was the “boss” of his “castle.” The prosecution carried the case to the supreme court, and today that court says the circuit court was , right. It follows, therefore, that I if a husband notifies a mother in ’ law that her society is not wanted he has the right to keep her out of his home. HE WOBBLED ( And Mayor Coffee Put Him to Work j on the Street. Mayor Coffee held a little court 1 this morning and dolled out a little justice to one John Johnson an employee on the interurban for public intoixeation. He was arrested Saturday evening by Night Policeman Fisher while trying to use all the ] sidewalk in his navigation, he was , allowed to rest until this morning , with Sheriff Butler when he was , brought up to answer the above charge. He made a beautiful plea , in his own behalf which was soon forgotten when Mayor Coffee said one dollar and cost, not having the ready cash he will board it out with Sheriff Butler. He was busily engaged this morning with the rest of the tramps in cleaning up second I street.
Two Spectacle Peddlers. Look out for two pedlers or opi tioians as they call themselves. | Who claim to be stoping at the Burt House and also claim to represent Mr. and Mrs. Lingerfield and Miss Sweetzer us they allude to advertisement in pajMTs. They are frauds and we wish to denounce them, un- ■ derstand we employ no one to call at I your house, as we transact all business in oar apartments at the Burt House. Therefore any one calling I at your house, claiming to be an optician etc., is simply a peddler that's all. It is evident that any one who knows very much about eyes does not need to peddler his knowledge from house to house. The people will be only too glad to go to the expert optician which is surely the case with Mr. and Mrs. Lingerfield and Miss Bweetzer who are surely doing a big business at the Burt House. During the last five months they have fitted 96R people with glasses in Van Wert, O. Overcoming 275 cases of headache. They have ten branch offices and employ more opticians than any five optical concern in the country. They intend to visit Decatur twice a year. All lenses warranted two years. They give free examination of eyes at there apartments in the Burt House. They do not call at people’s houses understand, but that is what peddlers do. ts For Sale A good mower, cheap Inquire of Dan N. Erwin. d|oo4i Money to loan on farms at lowest rate of interest.
