A republican and a non-partisan, a mixture for campaign purposes only. On election day it is different. The democrats should try the same game. All it takes to elect every democrat on the ticket is for every democrat to stand up manfully and make the victory a party one. Make an JX in the circle enclosing the rooster and no where else. The election of tho democratic ] ticket Tuesday by the full party 1 vote, will mean that the party are ■
thoroughly united for the game that comes up later this year. This is important from a political point of view and should not be lost sight of by the democratic voters. Johnny Andrews' statement as now reduced to cold facts, is not that Horace Porter said a dollar a day was enough for a laboring man but that a dollar a dav was enough for the work he done. Everybody thinks so too, and the laboring men of the second ward who work ten hours for one dollar and a half a day will know that it was more than enough. A council with a record of twenty nine ties in the short period of two j years are not getting much consola- ; tion from a public who expect a < council to transact the business of j the city in a business way. Their ■ defeat at this time will be an object lesson to future officials to discharge their duties as men, and not to rose rt to the school boy racket, in order to shift responsibility upon others.

The election next Tuesday will determine whether Decatur shall lie governed by Dnn-pwtjson republi- . cans or non-partison democrats. I r I seems to be the prevailing opinion that the democrats will do a more satisafetory job at the non-partisan racket.than the four present coun ! oilmen and candidates. Vote’er straight. After hearing Chairman Watson elaborate upon the achievements of the repbuli tan party and its trail of intelligence across the country in his address before the Indiana convention of the grand old party, one of the delegates went to his room in the hotel and blew out the gas. The doctors are still working on him—Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. Dr. H. D. Reasoner president of the First. National Bank of Marion, arrived at noon today to attend the bedside of his friend Judge David Studabaker, who for several .years has-been director of the bank. Dave Andrews who drives the night bus of Peoples and Holthouse had his right foot mashed this morning by letting the heavy weight that is carried around with
them to hitch the horse to fall or slip on his foot. The weight weighs nearly thirty pounds and fell a dist ince of about five feet crushing two of his toes to a pulp. He will be laid up for a few days at least. Manager Hively received letter this morning from Celina stating that they were anxious and willing Ito come and would sure be here on May the eighth and with a strong team they also inclosed their line . up which on pajier looks strong and should put up a fine bat f le. Os course the Rosenthals will have ( something to say about the game ] and Celina will not win without , first having an awful struggle. Horace T. Eastman, the inventor 1 of the locomotive pilot, said the ' other day: “This morinng I was sitting in a drug store waiting to get a prescription filjed when a ( young Irishman entered. “The Irishman pointed to a stack of grwn castile soap and said: “Oi want a loomp o’ that ’ 1 Very well sir,’said the clerk‘Will yon have ] it scented or unscented?’’ “Oi’ll ( take ut with me,’ said the Irish- ( man- ’
