Indiana, as second-olass mall matter J. H. HELLER, Manaqsr. Do not forget the meeting at the surveyor's office tonight. The presence of eypry democrat is needed, There is work to do. Mr. Porter of the second Ward is a laboring man himself. He works every day, and if elected to the council will prove the best friend the laborers have there. The morality issue headed by the city marshal does not take well on ■ top of a two years’ record in which he, has displayed great skill in trying to ' get in on both sides of the fence. There is not a bit of politics in ♦his election—so say the four republican oouncilinen when they appointed six republican election inspectors. Every one of the so ur as candidates for re-election are talking long and loud about how they favor non-partison city govern- ‘ ment. They are very anxious indi ed for the democrats to help keep them in a position where they can appoint other republicans. Not a X particle of politics, however. The time is almost ripe to elect a council who will transact the busi- | ness of the city in a bnsniess w ay. Twenty nineties in two yars is a record the four republican candidates for council should be ashamed j of. It is a fact too, that not one of j them are canvassing for votes on ■ ♦he strength of their record. If i i they did theywould not get votes , enough to stick in their eye. I, Horace Porter was defeated as oounclman two years ago tiecause Coal Oil Johnny Andrews circulated i the story that Mr. Porter should have said one dollar a day was i enough for any laboring man. Let's 1 see what the truth is. Andrews
was employed by the council to furnish supplies and attend the wants of some small pox suspects. He worked from one to two hours a day and tiled a bill for |1.50a day Mr. Porter wisely thought it a dis • crimination against the laboring ‘ men who work'd ten hours for 1.50 a day. and said so. Every laborer injthe second ward will agree that Mr. Porter was right The idea of paying Coal Oil Johnny <1.50 for a few hours work, and some one else |1.50 for ten hours. The laborers of the sceond ward were deceived two years ago. but the *ruth now will help them right the wrong done Mr. Porter. Republican state convention. Indianaiiolis, April 26-27.
