Fred Hubbard, the comedian that ■plays Steve Coon in Robert Sherman's production of “My Friend from Arkansaw,’’ which will be presented at the opera house Wed- i nesday April 6 tells the following good story. He was playing an engagement during the fair in a Missouri town when a young man. from the country who had evidently not l>een to many theatres. 1 walked up to the box office and said, “‘Give me a ticket.” “Can't give ■you anything down stairs, sell you one for the gallery,” stid the man in the box office. * Whats going | on up there,” asked the young i m tn.” The ticket seller explained 1 that it was the same show only a ; different place to sit, so he <-ook the ticket and went on it. A CLOSE CALL Job Warren, Enroute Io This City Almost Drowns. Job Warren, who drives for an Ohio City livery firm, came down last Saturday, on his way’ to Decatur with several horses. Before leaving Willshire he got Johnny’ 1 Rolston to accompany, which latter proved a fortunate thing for him. When they reached the flooded district west of town, near Grant Strickler's home, it became a question of “sink or swim.” The horse Job was riding began to swim for solid ground, but Job, afraid of that sea sick motion while in the ;,wide, sought refuge in the branches . of a tree. Later lie tried to reach I terra firma, but it is reported th it i he “went under" three times and ! but for the heroic efforts of his youthful companion who finally’ | I induced him to catch hold of the tail of one of the horses, Job would have ended his career in a watery | grave. As it is he was thorough’y saturated, neary frozen and badly’ frightened. It was a close call, sure.—Willshire Herald.
