Mrs Louisa Wertzberger went to Fort Wayne last evening. B. Botkins of Geneva’was a business caller to this city last evening. Mathias Kirsch and Bob Gregory returned from a business trip at Berne. Henry Soheiman and A. E. Rose made a business trip to Fort Wayne last evening. Mrs. Sarah Hartman and daughter of Fort Wayne are visiting relatives near Peterson. James Smith went to Fort Wayne last evening where he will spend Easter with relatives. Dick Boyd who has been quite sink for some days is reported as being some better today. Mr. and Mrs. J.W.Fliazor returned to Edgertown last evening after visiting here for a short time. Mrs. L. Kintz returned to Fort Wayne last evening after visiting here for a short time with her parents. Lon Smith is here from Lima, Ohio visiting with the family of George Debolt, and will remain over E ister. Miss Rose Martin returned from Fort Wayne last evening and will spend Easter with her sister, Mrs. Dr. Connell. Levi Mock returned to his home at Bluffton today. While here he has been interested in the Fay lorStudabaker case. Charles Elzey who is quite low with consumption is reported as being much worse today and his death is expected at almost any time. George Flanders and C. E. Neptune arrived home last night from a several weeks trip through the south. They may locate at Charlottville, Virginia next fall. Mrs. Noah Merica of Rural Route No. 2 was taken with an attack of heart trouble Wednesday evening and for a time her life was dispaired of. It is however, reported that she is resting somewhat easier today.
Frank Stone of Fort Wayne is at business caller here today. Charles Christen came back from Columbia City this morning. Fred Huffman returned this morning from a business trip at Columbia City. Mrs. John King went to Geneva this morning where she will visit for a few days with her son. J. D. Hale and James Niblick returned this morning from a business trip at Fort Wayne. Arthur H ill has accepted a position as clerk in the Gus Rosenthal clothing store, taking up his duties as such this morning. R. B. Patterson returned this mornng from Fort Wayne where he was attending the Northern Millers Association meeting. E. L. Carrol returned this morn ing from Fort Wayne where he was attending the Northern Millers Association meeting. Mrs. Samuel Doak entertained a number of the ladies of the W. R. C. at dinner today. An enjoyable time was had by all. Mrs. C. C. Schafer returned today from Fort Wayne where she was visiting with her parents, Rev. W. H. Daniel and wife. A wash out on the Clover Leaf railroad at Fort Jennings, Ohio, of nearly sixty feet is causing all of this roads traffic to be delayed. The Young Matron Club met this afternoon with Mrs. D. E. Stodabaker at her home on Third street and a delightful time is reported. Charles F. Addlesperger left this morning for Indianapolis where he will attend a Hearst meeting and go from there to Bloomington to renew his studies in the state University. Nat Popkins rccieved a telegram last evening from his wife at NewYork City stating that a big baby girl made its appearance yesterday morning and that both were doing well. Mrs. William Rigsby returned to her home at Richmond this morning being called there owing to the death of her brother in law, While here she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Confer. A Peity Hill young lady was caught kissing her sweetheart a few night ago. Her mother took her to task for such actions, but the girl silenced her by this quotation: “ Whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, do ye even so unto them.” The old lady wilted. The leap year girl had reached the point where an interview with the young man's mother was necessary. "If you will only say that I can have your son.” pleaded the fair applicant, “I'm willing to wait for him forever.” "Very well,” repied the maternal parent, “just come aronud when the time is up and you can have him.” A Boston paper mentions a minister in that city who "made the finest prayer ever addressed to a Boston audience.” It has been suspeoied for a long time that some preachers were addressing their prayers to the audience instead of to the Almighty God. Whether consciously or not. that Boston reporter was bitterly sarcastic. A fight occurred last evening near the Fashion stables between several farmer boys, and was a very bloody affair while it lasted. Neither one of the contestants having the best of it when the police alarm rang, thus breaking up the fight. They lioth escaped. The police nevertheless, know who tho violators were and warrants were immediately issued for their ariest which will occur as soon as they can be caught. I

Mrs. Shanks left last evening tor Chicago where she will join her husband. Rev. Hower arrived from New ' Haven today and will visit for a 1 few days here with relatives. Judge Penfield of Aburn, a republican candidate for Governor is ’ in the city today looking over the field. The reported fire last evening in the widow John King property on First street was all a false alarm. No fire was in the house, outside of a small gas fire which was being 1 used to dry- some fresh plaster. Sunday is the day set for the cele--1 bration of Easter and for the wearing of new spring bonnets and gowns, and already many of the 1 merchants have decorated their display windows with choice and attractive goods and the most of them being decidedly neat and ' attractive. Fred Scheiman is fast getting his new place of business in tho Studa-baker-Allison building into shape for buisness. All of his new furniture now being here and is being rapidly placed in positon by a large force of workmen. This place when completed will be one of the finest meat markets in northern Indiana and will certainly be a credit to the city. Fred is a hustler and up to date and is always after the business. A decision has just been rendered in the Warren circuit court, which holds the act passed by the last legislature extending the terms of county officers as unconstitutional. In Ware.n county the treasurer, is serving his second term, and the point raised was that the present official could serve but the constitutional limit of four years. Another suit has been filed in Hendricks county where the treasurer is serving his first term. A great number of the city sports are now taking advantage of hunting duck and each day you can see three or four of the faithful starting out with their heavy shot guns and all other equipments necessary for hunting, but, alas one and all comejbaok alike, no game but awfully tired and hungry but still they willj persist in saying that it was sport. The town's new fire engine was unloaded here yesterday. Two men from the firm from whom it was bought, were here to put it in good running order and to give it a test. The engine was tested last night w ith one, two and three streams and it seems to do all that is claimed of it. Many were out on the streets to see it work. It may be given another trial today.—Berne Witness. All members of the ball team are requested to be present this evening at the Columbia Club rooms without fail. This meeting will be one of vast importance and it is necessary for all to be present, as tho team will be thoroughly instructed on signals and other finer points of the game of that the team may be in a position to be able to stall off their opponentseven though they are unable to obtain any practice and it will also be decided whether or not it will be good policy to practice Sunday under the existing circumstances. Other business of importance will also be brought | up before the team.
