The program rendered by our Literary Society was one of desired interest. Following enchanting vocal and instrumental music came the exaugur.il address by the out going president, H. E. Rittgers, inaugural address by President elect C. E. Runyon. Speeches by L. E. Opliger and D. L. Miller were in order. Resolved that capitol punishment should be abolished was the matter of debate. The affirmative carried a two thirds vote of the ' judges. With cherishing prospects did our people await the pending of the Washintgon Memorial which was tendered by Heller sFamous Junior I Band on Monday evening., the | National day of the father of this country. Our fondest hop* was realized by reason of the termina- i tion of a grand success from any ' stand point. The judicious calssical I music as rendered by the above local renowned company together with the patriotic speeches delivered by S. P. Hoanm and L. L Baumgartner gladened the hearts, inspired the souls and enlightened the minds and filled the large audience with enthusiasm, which was shown by their many and prolonged en-1 cores. The history of this band is , briefly told. It has been fifteen months since Bert Heller induced > a few of his comrades to organize a brass band, additional members were added from time to time when now they command twenty instruments. It is worthy of remark that proficient outside help was very meager, their success being almost

A motion prevailed to discontinue the regular institute work for the i day and the time be devoted in de- j bate. Adjourned for dinner.
