Beat His Wife on Christmas Day and Threatened to Kill family. - Arrested and Fined. Ailum Deani was arrested last evening by Night Policeman Fisher and placed in the jail to ans .ver to a charge of assault and battery upon his wife. Adam has been drunk since last Wednesday and has failed to provide in any manner for his family and they are in destitute circumstances, having no coal, no gas, nothing to ear and poorly clad. He came home yesterday in a drunken condtion and at once proceeded to beat and otherwise mistreat his family and oven wvi»t su far as to drive his thirteen year old son out into the blizzard last night with no place to go, and said, “I will do to the whole family what Osborne did to his father in law.” Mrs. Deam became frightened, summond the poliw and he was taken to jail. Ho was tried before Squire Smith this morning and was fined five dollars and costs amounting in all to fifteen dollars and eighty cents. As ter a severe lecture by the Squire he was allowtsl to go on his on own recognizance afterpromising to provide for his family and never again commit a similar offens,-. WILL PREACH HERE. Rev. COLLEGE BOYS Will be in Decatur New Year’s Eve. Indiana University’s Famous Glee Club will Show in This City Soon. .——— Owing to the influence of local students and alumni, Decatur will again have the opportunity of hearing the Indiana University Glee Club, one of the most famous organizations of its kind in the west. The success of the Club this season is unparalleled, and their entertainments are reputed to I*s far ahead of the ordinary. The Indiana University Glee Club is the only glee club in the country which carries a full band and orchestra. There are t wenty two young men in the 1 club, with orchestra of seventeen pieces, and a band made up of | fourteen instruments. This is a new departure in college musical clubs, and its success thus far will make it a fixture at Indana Univer isty. Walter Percy Pfaff, who is with the club this year, is an im- ' personator of internationl reputa-1 tion, and he has been retained by the State University at an encr-; mous expense. T. Owings Sheckvll, i the lightning sketch artist on the j club has studied under Parisian ; artists, and draws a complete picture in less than thirty seconds. The musical abili'y of the club is beyond disputes and the entertain rnent here will doubtless be fully ap preeiuted. It will be given December 31 at the M.E. Church under the auspices of the Ladies Mite Society of this city. The Methodists. The friends of the Methodist church will worship us usual to- ; morrow. The Sunday School at 9:15 in the morning, and sermon at 10:30 by the pastor, at which service a full choir will render the anthem. "Harkjthe Herald Angels Sing.” Misses Lucile Bryson and Josephine will render a special selection.
The Epworth League will hold its service at ti p tn “A World Wide View My Responsibility,” Miss Gertrude Blosser, leader. The Rev. G. H Myers of Upland, Indiana will preach at 7. Everyone will be given a welcome to these services. The Indiana University Glee < 'lub of twenty-two members, will give a concert at this church on New Year's Eve. under the unspices of the Ladies' Mito Society. Each member and friend will be kind to sell tickets and help to give this famous club a good heurng. A MEETING.
