The Euchre Club met Saturday! evening at the home of Miss Eva Acker on First street and a good i time was had by all present. They
at once proceeded to engage in their game to see who would prove to be the lucky member and after a battle of twelve games the winner was found to be Mrs. George Flanders. A fine two course lunch was served to which all present did justice. The club will meet again one week from next Friday at the home of Miss Bessie Congleton. Mrs. D. M. Hensley and Miss Leona De Voss were the outside guests present. Amusements. Never before has this city been served with so artistic a treat as in the prfeormanc.' of Pygmalion and Galater, by Miss Rachel Lewis and her excellent company. Thursday night. Miss Lewis has wen her way into our hearts by her magnetic personality and has established herself as almost versatile actress. Her performance of Galatea, the animated statue, was replete with such artistic touches as only inborn genius can supply. From the simple innocense of Galatea - .- awakening from the marble statue. Mi'S Lewis easily passed into the deeper human emotion of her love of the creator, and later to her realization of the iron conventionalities of life that would not premit her to love the husband of another. And in the love the last act, when she sacrifices her own love for Pygmalion's happiness, she reconciles Pygmalion to his estranged spouse, and. voluntarily, yields ~ ;'’r«elf up to the cold, stern marble from whence she came. Miss Lewi'' acting was beautiful and moving in its pith 's, and suppressed emotion. will not soon orgotten.— Raleigh ,N. MomingPost. At the ’ opera house Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
