Drake went to Gas ‘ City this morning for a visit 1 with friends and relatives. Frank McConnell the machine man returned from a trip in the 1 northern part of the state this morn- 1 ing. ' Miss De’la Sellemeyer arrived in this city today from a several days 1 visit with friends at Garret and Auburn. 1 Miss Bertha Heller returned from ' Portland last evening where she has ‘ been visiting for the past few days with friends. R. J. Holthouse departed this 4 ( afternoon for Louisville, from I which place he will travel the, coming season. Anthony Wertzberger reports that ; his crop of oats this .year yielded forty bushels to the acre. While this is not an unusual yield it is 1 above the average and satisfactory to him. Rev. Pontius announces that he will deliver a character sermon ] Sunday night, entitled ‘‘Judas the ■ Traitor." Church services will also . beheld in the morning at 10:30!] o'clock. Mrs. B. Amos Hirschy of Berne was a business visitor here today. Badger fights seem to be quite popular with Decatur real (?) sports. Mrs. W. E. Pease went to Craigville this morning where she will visit relatives. Miss Bessie Gerard who has been visiting at Fort Wayne retruned this afternoon. Mrs. Wm. Pillars went to Craigville this morning for a short visit with friends. The Clover Leaf pay car will arrive in this city Monday on its monthly pay trip. Mrs. John Hower and daughter of Huntington, is visiting in this city with Reuben Briener and wife. Mrs. Maraget Bixler and Miss Hallie Moser of Bluffton are here for a short visit with Miss Marie Meyers. The pipe layers on the Marshal street sewer broke the record yesterday by laying 128 feet of big tile. The usual days work is 70 feet. Aughenbaugh <fe Deßolt are prepared to do all kinds of carriage and house painting, and piper hanging. Head quarters over Smith Bros, wagon shop. ’ Calvin Miller contractor for Fornax and Rugg streets stated to a Democrat reporter today that he would begin work on excavating Monday morning. The Knights of Pythias lodge at Alexandria, will next week give a carnival which they are now busy advertising as the biggest thing on earth —or elsewhere. Martin Laughlin one of the best fellows on earth as well as one of the most prosperous farmers and citizens of Jefferson township was looking after business here toda y. Mrs. E. H. Scott received a telephone message from Plymouth last evening stating that her daughter Mrs. Arnold was very sick. Mrs. Scott left for Plymouth this morning. Alva Nichols who for a number of years clerked in the shoe department of the Big store has accepted similar position with a Monticello, Indiana firm and will leave for that place next Monday. A merry crowd of girls gathered at the home of Miss Lillian Bushman Tuesday afternoon and spent a pleasant afternoon with her guest, Miss Lillian Meyers of Decatur, Ind. Games of all kinds were played and delicious lunch was served. Those present were: Norma Rapp, Agnes Snyder. Anna Bornhorst, Alice McFarland, Marie Danaher. Rosa Dunaher, Clara Snyder. Miss Alice Jackson has accepted a position ar clerk at the True dry goods store. J. W. Wilkins and family went to Fort Wayne this morning for a short visit with friends. J. H. Heller, wife and babies departed this morning for a two weeks outing at Rome City. Mrs. Frank Hauck and family ar rived from Warren today for a visit with Mrs. Frank Burger. Mr. and Mrs. John Smith went to Fort Wayne this morning, where they will visit relatives for several days. Earl Hughes and Raymond Knoff went to Van Wert this morning where they will visit friends for several days. Dick Siliek will make Bellefontaine. Ohio, next week, where Edna Medium goes in fast company for a fat purse. Mrs. Rebecca Shaw and Oliver Warren of Farmland, will be guests of John J. Mayer and family tomorrow. Clarence Spencer, who has been visiting relatives here for some time returned to Fort Wayne this morn- ' ingN. C. Coverdale has a terrible fight ing badger on exhibition. The animal cost considerable, but can be made useful. Mrs. J. W. Mylott and Mrs. J. S. Turner went to Fort Wayne this morning for a short visit with friends I and relatives. Miss Lila Huffman, who is employed in a dental office at Elkhart, ar rived in the city last evening for a 1 visit with her parents. Chris Scherry, the well known farmer living northeast of this city, left for 1 Fort Wayne last night, where he will visit for a few days with his daughter. J. S. White, who has been visiting with bis brother-in-law, Albert McGill, who lives seven miles east of this city, returned to his home at Fort Wayne, yesterday. Mayland Harman nearly severed bis thumb from the left hand this morning. He was working in the P. W. Smith saw mill and caught his hand on a saw. A daughter of John Clem of Union township, has been engaged as a teacher in the Monroeville public schools, She is said to be an excellent teacher and is deserving of the position given given her, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Hunsicker entertained as their guests Sunday last, Mr. and Mrs. F. Freck of Adams county, Mr. and Mrs. David Hus sicker and Mr. and Mrs. Hunsicker, of Decatur, Ind. Monroeville Breeze. Dr. E. J. Beardsley has gone to Winona for a week’s stay, and from there goes to Chicago and then to Milwaukee, where he will visit a brother. He will return to this city August 31, and resume bis practice of medicine. David Wagoner went to McComb, Ohio, yesterday afternoon, where he will visit with his brother, Albert Wagoner. He will also make a short stav at Findlay. Guy Wagener, his nephew, who has been visiting here, returned with him. Today is a holy day for Catholics, it being the annivertary of the assumption of the Blessed Virgin into heaven. The ceremonies are beautiful and impressive to anyone. Father Wilkins is being assisted at the St. Marys church by priests from Fort Wavne.
