Very few remember the existence of | a certain remarkable statute which was passed in the early days of George 111. if indeed they ever heard of It. It | runs to the effect that If any woman "entices any of his majesty's male sub- j jects into marriage by the use of any powders or paints or false hair or wool I on tlie cheeks she shall be prosecuted for sorcery.” What a cause eelebre It would be If any of ills present maj- . esty's mule subjects were to endeavor to put the law Into action. What a | rush there would lie of fashionable ladles to secure front seats In court for the hearing. London 1 itler. I
MAMMOTH UNLOADING SALE 300 HATS BELOW COST DURING JULY Burdg Millinery Store A lens for Seeing under water is described as producing an effect which i is both astonishing and delightful. It ; gives distinct vision to objects from twenty to thirty feet beiow the surface which are usually out of ordinary eye range. Tls> wye’s loss of extending vision when under water is owing to the fact that an entirely different focus Is required. The speeta- . clew which can adjust this focus are made by putting two watch crystals back to back or with the eoncavltiea . outward. Try It and be surprised. The Only Thing They Ever Did. | John Bright's powers of sarcasm I wore almost unrivaled. Some of his ■ sharpest utterances have been against members of the nobility. When boasts had been made of the antiquity of a prominent family, that their ancestors ; came over with the Conqueror, his re- , ply was prompt, "1 never beard that they did a tytliing else.” The Only Disagreeable Part. It I* only the first half of any Job that Is disagreeable. The second half Is worse. New Orleans Times bernui erst.
