To the consumers of natural ga s in the city of Decatur: The question of securing natural gas to supply patr >ns with natural gas to heat and light their homes during the coming winter, is becoming a very serious problem The c mditi nos the field from which the gas has heret- re been snppleid has become , such as to absolutely preclude the p>-'’.bility of securing more gas by drilling additi' nal wells, and the territory has decreased so much in volume and pressure that the wells now on the line are wholly inade quate to deliver a supply in cold weather. On November 1. 1902. there were 36 welL» supplying the plant with ' gas. 24 of which arc’ncw dead, and the other twelve are greatly weakened by the excessive draught on them during the past winter. These facts clearly demonstrate that unless large extensions are made, connecting the pump station with another portion of the field, a great number of new wells drilled, and the consumers actively cooperate with the company in pro•mg the economical use of gas. that it will be wholly beyond our power to deliver a sufficient supply of gas to heat yuur homes. To bring about this desired end. there is but one method that can be adapted, viz: the use of meters. By thi' system eo® mical methods are introduced by the consumer of gas and the saving of gas re-act' directly to the consumer's benefit, for it means a direct saving of money and is a ca.-e f "no gas" no pay ’ ''•■••_• • , stir g nditioM we are obliged to notify all consumers • f natural ga-. that all gas <■ nsumed after Oct.-ber Ist. will be supplied only by meter measurement at the net price cf 25 cents per one thousand cubic feet. Meters will be furnished by the company with-<ut c»t to the consumer, except the meter rental of *3 per year as provided in the ordinance. Kentucky Feud Cases Will Be Re-Tried Amid Better Conditions. D »»greerrent of ta« Jury Cor» de~e: Probably for the Best After All la Saib and Done. Movement to Break Up Courthouse R ng by Partitioning Breat- tt County. Jackson. Ky.. June —But for ?ne juror Curtis Jett would have been -n---rieted for the murder of Marcum ant a majority of the jury favored the con victioc of Thomas White, also Both are today almost 1“• miles from home in jail at Lexington, an! their next ( trial will be at Cynthiana, over 1*? miles from Jacksen away from the mountains and in th® bluegrass region under very different condi’ us from those existing in Breathitt county. Cynthiana is four times as large as Jackson and it is not likely newspaper men and other visitors will camp cut at the next hearing Harrison county in which the prisoners are to have their next trial, is noted for its chivalry and culture. It is the old home of General John Morgan who recruited her® hig celebrated raiders during the civil war The interest in the changof venue is second only to the verdi '. When Judge Redwine refused to tear arguments on the change or the lots tion tt was stated by many in the courthouse that the presiding judge had heard from Governor Beckham who is generally believed to have tai something to do with the change of venue to Harrison county, which is in the l?tb district of Kentucky where J J Osborne is the judge of the circuit court. L P Fryer is the common wealth s attorney and the sheriff and other court officers are also favorably known With such general confidence in the surroundings of the next trial there is a genera! belief here that everything is for the best after al! ” If the verdict had been one of conviction the residents here teel that violence would have followed and that ft would have extended to others than witnesses jurors and these who had taken part in the prosecution. It is now thought that after the trials of Jett and White in Harrison county, the ases of other assassins who are known here and who have never been arrested will be taken up with some assurances of justice on a change of venue Among the cases cited is that of the late Dr. Cox. whose friends refused to se- ire witnesses for any jury in Breathitt county that was selected under the present regime. The next case on the docket here was that of Curtis Jett for killing the town marshal James Cockrill. but it ■will be post; red until after the trials at Cynthiana and many believe now tha - there will be no need of try ing Jett on more than one of the cases standing against him. Colonel Williams is at Frankfort today con'errine with the governor regarding the withdrawal of the troops It is understood that he advised the ' governor that no number of troops could stop the lurking firebugs or hid den assassins tut tha’ a - l-asr ne company would be retained In Jackson as long as Proves; Marana: Long mire was kept in charge of the town -oe troops that escorted Jett and White to Lexington last evening will j 1 not return There is still much appre- ■ hension in the community for the fu I ture. and many here share in the movement in dinerent parts of Ken tucky to have Breathitt county par ’ i celed cut for annexation to other coun ties, although it might depreciate local valuations after Jackson lost fu prestige as a county seat. Seme hold thgt in the loss of the so-called court house ring " the town would gain much more than it would lose. It is claimed that al! the feud troubles that have afflicted the county originated iu con tests for local offices and afterward extended into professicuai, business and social affairs. There is a feeling of relief here so far as old scores are concerned, but there is still a reign of terror because it is believed that oth- : era have been marked.” Going Home for the Summer.
