Some steps toward the organization of the department for this year were made. A mass meeting of the young ladies was called for 4 :30 o'clock this afternoon in Plato hall. This announcement caused no little amount of worry in the minds of some of the fellows. The enrollment in the music school is far in excess of the enroll-j ment at tins time last year. Thisj ’8 ttu* case in the Academy also and even though the college of liberal arts should fall off some, tlic| entire enrollment of the university j will compare very favorably with that of last year. Dr. Cobin made some remarks! concerning athletics at chapel exercises this tnerniug. He dwelt es pecially on foot ball and gave his ! opinions of the game. He said, in | substance, that the community and ! board of trustees of the unive-sity were opposed to the game on account of the physical perils result ing from it; that tic himself had j always favored the game as a sport ! conducive to manliness and fairness. He continued by saying that of late he had been greatly discour agi d by seeing themunner in which it was being played, all sorts of strategies and underhanded schemes being resorted to by the various college teams. The game is on trial now, he went on to sqy, and any nnfntrners will come to the surface to its discredit; the stu dents will havu to decide whether they want to retain foot hall or not by playing a clean, honett game or by participating in unfair and dishonorable measures.

A gentleman, whose business is a constant strain upon his nerves, relates that one night recently he was unable to sleep. On previous occasions he bad observed a benefit arising from the use of Ripans Tabules. Or. this particular occasion, believing that heroic measures were necessary, he took three. The result was really surprising. The effect was as quieting as though the medicine had contained a narcotic, which i very one knows it does not. There was an immediate feeling of case, rest and quiet, extending in a few minutes over the entire system, and sleep came as naturally as to a child.
