Mrs. Richard Jones has gone to Connersville for a visit with friends. Her hushand is in Summer, 11!., to which place the family will move. The Young Ladies Missionary society of the Christian church will meet at the home of Mrs. Thomas Abrams Monday afternoon, April 5, at 2 :30 o’clock. A coffee war is on between the local dealer at Terre Haute and as a result the price of that much needed article has decreased to eight cents per pound. Dr. J.Tingley, professor of chemistry of the Medical college of Pennsylvania, is tiie guest of Mrs. Mary Hammond, his sister-in-law. He is alumnus of I. A. U., now DePaiiw. James Matthews has sold his property on cast Washington street to Win. Rector for $2100. The transfer was made yesterday and Mr. Rector will take possession in April. Au interlocking switch will la* placed at Limedale soon. Under the new law these expensive and interesting devices are imperative, and Friday men were at the Junction looking over the field. This is an important crossing and the new switch will be quite an improvement at the junction of tiie Vandalia
and the Monon.
The funerai services over the remains of the late Rev. G. P. Jenkins will occur at College Avenue M. E. church at 3:30 p. in. tomorrow, instead of at noon as announced in this paper yesterday. The arrangements were changed this morning and instead of I he burial occurring at Terre Haute the body will he interred in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends desiring to take a llnal leave of the remains will do so at the family residence as the casket v ill not he opened at the church. The funeral services will he conducted by Drs. Chalice.

The Wednesday cluh of Bloomington gave a pleasant reception on Wednesdap evening of which the Telephone says inp«.rt: “A pleasant feature was the 8 o’clock dinner, and an excellent menu was served, headed with the appropriate motto, “A man can die but once.” Music was furnished by the gentlemen, and Miss Bickwith, of Greencastle, dressed as a gipsy queen, told the future, shrouded in the mysteries of tier people. All agree that the evening was one of the most enjoyable in the history of the Wednesday club.” College Avenue church was tilled to overllowing last evening by our citizens to hear the lecture by Lt. McIntosh. The lecturer took his audience on a decidedly interesting voyage to the Holy Land and around the world the lecture being illustrated with appropriate views. The speaker attempted no oratory hut in a plain clear talk gave forth much information and interesting data. Lt. McIntosh is a progressive gentleman and an earnest church worker and is doing a vast amount of good work for College Avenue church in various ways. Under ins able management the choir lias a high standard, and his push and zeal in the general work has a far reaching influence. The Indianapolis Journal today says: This afternoon at 3 o'clock the season will open with a game between Indianapolis and DePauw. The college team’s pitcher, Joe 1’ulse, is recognized as the best college pitcher in this state. Preacher Hinshaw Must Work. IndianAfous, April 2.—The supreme court this afternoon handed down the long-looked-for decision in the Hinshaw murder case. It attirms the decision of the lower court by which the Rev. W. E. Hinshaw is serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of h's wife. South Greencastle. Considerable commotion was caused in this part of the cilv yesterday hy a fight between Brake man Brown, of No. 20. and a colored “dead beat.” The brakeman discovered the man on the platform and stopped the train in order to put him off. The tramp began to fight and got knocked down for his “sassiness.” He then picked up stones to throw and was confronted by a big revolver, which closed the scene. The tramp waited for the next train. Geo. Murphy, of Bloomington, and his brother Albert manager of the Western Union offiee of West Baden are here visiting their mother. They go to Indianapolis today but will return Sunday. Milt Crawley and his brother John, are here from Ingalls to visit their home folks. Chas. Buster and Ed Lee were here from Muncie yesterday. Bill Peyton, Bill Aihright, Mike Albright, Dave Buster and Mr. Chrisenberry are working with a Vandalia extra gang on the Staples switch. At) Hinsley and Mike Albright are willing to meet all comers in a game ot quoits. Their friends claim the championship of the United States for them.
