The Gentlemen’s Literary club met with Mr. Albert Allen last evening and listened to an interesting paper presented by Elder A. 11. Morris on ‘‘Some lost Arts of the Church.” The writer took tlie position tnat in order to accomplish its divine mis-ion in the world, the church, as founded by Christ and bis Apostles, must be restored: that the gospel must be preached to the poor; that woman must he allowed equal pri\i!e_es with man : that greateretlbrts should he exerted in behalf of young people, and that the atllieted and needy should receive greater attention. An animated discussion followed in which some of the positions taken by the essayist were warmly indorsed. The club meets in two weeks with Prof. Baker and Mr. dos. S. McClary reads

This fact was ridiculously demonstrated iu the case of the recent contest at Crawfordsville. The judges marked one of the contestants a winner because he had a fine dash and animation about his delivery, hut they rated him far below the other contestants on thought and composition.
