He will remain in the city over Sun Jay. The railway men's sound money clubs give a big demonstration at Louisville tonight. A special carrying Motion employes passed through here this forenoon. A number of local railway men joined the crowd. On one of the cars was the motto. “He who says we are coerced, lies.” While switching at Oakalla about three o’clock last night, the engine pulling the fast, freight west got off the track. The main line is blocked. The through trains have been sent around over the Vandalia between Terre Haute and Greencastle and the accommodations have been held back. The wrecking train was called out from Brightwood, passing through here at eleven o’clock. Regularold time democrats inPutnam who supported George W. Cooper for congress two years ago and saw democrats hereabouts desert Cooper and work for his defeat all because the post office appointment did not go to suit them now have an opportunity to play even. The Free S.lver league (which by the way hasn’t had a meeting for several weeks) is under the control of these same IS'.H bolters. Will Mr. Cooper’s S friends here feel like, being dictated to by tlie very men who two years ago ; helped defeat Mr. Cooper? We think

The Greencastle Whist club met last evening with Mr. and Mr.-. J. B. Nelson and organized for the winter season. it was decided to meet every two weeks on Friday evening. The membership was limited to twenty-eight. The meeting last evening was an enjoyable one in every respect and there was much pleasure expressed that the deep and interesting game of whist is to be renewed. The members of the club are Messrs, and Mesdames F. A. Arnold, l>. L. Anderson. F. 1>. Ader.

The missionary study class will be organized in Col. Weaver’s room Monday evening at 0:30. All students wishing to enter the class are requested to come out. The I. U. team passed through yesterday en route to Indianapolis. The team put up a far better appearance than it did at the I)c Pauw game. All sound money students are urged to come out tonight and lend enthusiasm to the rally. At 0.30 the boys will meet at the post office and proceed the the Belnap hotel to escort John L. Griffith the speaker for the occasion to the court house. Republican ladies are especially invited to come out. Let us show Greencastle of what sort of stuff DePauw tepublicans are made. Fred Barrows had secured circulars announcing that the college clubs of the United States will call on McKinley on October 30. A very low rate has been secured and all who can are urged to go. The primary oratorical contest will be held Dec. 24, Prizes of $50 to the first; $15 to the second and ii-10 to the third in rank will be given. The association promises also $5 to the fourth should the proceeds justify it.— Hloomington Telephone. What does DePauw think of that? With our reputation for oratory only $15 can be raised for the first prize. Our con test occurs on November 13th. Ml SIC AND ART NOTES.
