Democrats believe in partiality; republicans in fairness Democrats chose five out of eight county candidates for office from Greencastle and the other three rrom two townships. Eleven townships have no representation whatever upon their county ticket. The republicans divided as fairly as possible. Eight townships are represented by eight candidates. The offices are distributed and Greencastle gets but one—all she is entitled to. Voter think of this between now and November!

unalterably opposed to every measure calculated to debase our currency or impair the credit of oun country. We are therefore oppos'd to the free coinage of silver except by international agreement with the leading commercial nations of the world, which we pledge ourselves to promote, and until such agreement can be obtained the existing gold standard must be preserved. All our silver and paper currency must be maintained at the
•TERRIFIED” VOTERS. A Maine Newspaper's Kxplanation of th* Kecent Landslide. The Bnugor Commercial, one of the few straight Democratic papers in Maine this year, thinks the main cause of the Republican landslide there on Sept. It was the wicked and successful attempt to alarm the voters. “Through their scheme of individual lists, "says The Commercial, "the status < f every voter wtts known, and to doubtful ones were, sent during the past week numerous documents designed to frighten them into the belief that an awful calamity would befall the country should Bryan > and Scwal) lx< elected. “They were told that their savings banks deposits would be reduced onehalf; that holders of mortgages and real estate would take steps toward immediate foreclosure; that life insurance premiums—in fact, all kinds of savings investments—would be dealt a blow from which they could not possibly recover. The plain people, almost terrified at the dark picture drawn for them, rushed to the polls to support the Republican candidates, with the ri suit, already shown. The explanation is probably correct The voters were frightened; but not without good reason. A rational man will not knowingly vote to destroy the title to half of his property. Every voter with two lobes to his brain, who lias dispassionately studied the free coinage question, knows that it means a reduction of the value of onr dollar to the value of the Mexican dollar. Wage earners, pensioners, savings banks depositors, etc., know that Mexican dollars are only worth half as muoh us our present dollars and will only buy half as much. To pay pensioners in such dollars is equivalent to cutting pensions in two. Is it any wonder that the pensioner objects to such proceedings and does so with his vote? The wage earners, depositors in banks, members of building and Joan associations and holders of insurance policies of all kinds would be caught in the same way if they had to accept 60-cent dollars instead of whole dollars. Is it any wonder that the voters of Maine “rushed to the polls" to save their earnings and to guard against future loss? A man’s first duty is to himself and his family. The vote that is for the protection and welfare of the family is a patriotic vote. If every man would vote fer his own best interests, the future of this country would be safe. It is probable that a majority of the voters of this country will “rush to the polls’’ in November and vote to save their wages, their earnings, their families and themselves.
Information For All. Too much cannot bo said in praise of the penny publication Present Problems. Four numbers have thus far been issued, and each contains an excellent discussion on the money question. No. 1 is a 48-page pamphlet entitled “The Free Coinage Problem. ” It is a most excellent treatment of the whole free coinage problem, showing its bearings on farmers, wage earners and the
general public.
No. 2 contains, besides other short articles, the now famous “Horrible

Are Vour Wife and Children Protected By insurance? More than 10,000,000 people have policies. Twenty-five million people are trusting to those policies to care for them when husbands and fathers are dead. Thetu- Are Not Crimea.
Mankind progressed from the use of rowboats to railing vessels and steamships. It is not “enmity” to sailing vessels that makes us travel by steamships. It is no “unfriendly act” of a great newspaper against hand presses if it uses steam presses. It is no “crime” against horses if wo transport our goods by railroads. Neither is it enmity to silver nor an unfriendly act, nor a crime toward it, if other nations and our own use gold for the transfer of values. We will continue to use rowboats and sailing vessels as well ns steamships, just as we will continue to use copper aud silver as well as gold. No act of congress could. however, give to our sailing vessels the great and almost uniform swiftness of our ocean steamers.
