The paper says, “Mr. Neil s overwhelming nomination by the republicans at the primaries Saturday shows that the republicans regard him us a shrewd, safe, conservative and experienced business m in.” The Home Columbian club met last evening at the residence of Grey Potter. The new year’s work was discussed in a general way and plans arranged for the future. There was unusually good attendance. The membership will he cut down somewhat, :is Fred Black leaves today for Worcester, Ohio, to attend college and Omer Ncwhouse goes to the Rush medical school at Chicago next week. A correspondent from North Salem writes that Frank Sanders, of that place, is one of the best young pitchers in southern Indiana, and that he is fully able to bold his own in last company. In a game with Coatsville yesterday lie held that team down to four hits and struck out eleven men. This is pretty good work for an amateur, and he may be t ried out by I ndiaiiapolie next spring. —Indiniutfiolis Mi’u'n, lion. 'I'. T. Moore uddiessed the republicans of Fox Ridge Tuesday evening. The school house was crowded with voters who listened to an excellent speech on the political issues of the campaig.i. The Fox Ridge repub'icau club completed their organization. In two weeks they will hold a meeting in south Greencastle aud will invite Dr H. Moore to speak to tncin. and if theevctiing is favorable will speak from the platform of Harris’ mill. Jesse W. VVeik is at home from Chicago where he went to confer with Chairman Hanna concerning the sending ol t arl Seliurz to Indiana to make speeches. Concerning the visit of the Indiana delegation Hie Chicago Record says: ‘ J. W. Weik, of Greencastle, has been making addresses in German throughout the state. “They are very much interest id in the currency question and show a decided preference for a gold standard,” said Mr. Wcik. “This is true of Germans in strong democratic counties.’ Miss Aliie Hibben was united in marriage this afternoon at two o’clock, to Mr. John Hargrave, of Pittsburg, at residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Hibben, ti02 south Locust street. Rev. W. K. Weaver pronounced the ceremony in his usual impressive manner. The wedding was a quite one, but few intimate friends witnessing it. Mr. and Mrs. Hargrave leave on an afternoon train for Niagara Falls, where they will spend a few days hefore going going to their new home at Puquesue, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburg, where Mr. Hargrave is head book-keeper in the Carnegie Mteel works. Miss Hibben was one of Greeneastle's popular young ladies, who ha« many friends to extend congratulaMons. The Hume, 111., Record says of the marriage of a son of Mr. John A. Turner of Fincastle, where the young Mr. Turner was raised: On Wednesday evening, at the M.E. church at this place, Mr. John F. Turner and Miss Luella Connelly were pronounced man and wife in the presence of a large audience of friends and well wishers. Rev. H. G. Wass performed the ceremony in his usual impressive manner. The
groom is the gentlemanly agent of the L L>. A W. Ry. at this place, and alto^ gether popular. The bride is the handsome and accomplished daughter of our worthy townsman, Mr. J. W. Connelly. The church had been handsomely 4eeorated by the many lady friends the bride. Thursday morning the happy couple Started on a little wedding tour among the relatives of the groom i4 lu-i diana. The Record joins with theiij many friends in wishing the newly wedded pair the happiness and prosperity winch they so richly merit. There Is great complaint by neighbois over the scenes ahd actions of trespassers at the MeKeen ball park. Some allege that the boys are not really trespassers as the gates are often left invitingly open. On Monday some buys were on the grounds and were foolishly firing a revolver at a target. Ope of the millets struck the house of John Moss, passed shrough the weatherboarding and plastering into a room, A little child had been sitting in a chair but had followed its mother from the room but a second or two before. Had it remained in the room it Would have been killed as its head was in la direct line with the path of the ballet. This is as the matter is reported to this paper and there is considerable indignation near the corner of Jackson and Hanna streets. The park should be kept free of noisy and reckless b<iys if possible. The authorities of the grounds state that they propose prosecuting every trespasser caught in the i park hereafter. They further state the Agates are not left open but that boys break the jastening. Messrs. Case and Lewis went to Center school bouse Floyd township Tuesday night and addressed a republican meeting. The house was crowded with ladies and gentlemen who listened attentively. Mr. Case spoke on National issues and Mr. Lewis on local allairs. They made a decided impression On the people with their array of incontrovertible facts. A republican club of 43 members was organized, with Thomas McKeehan president, G. T. Reeves vice president, Ed McVey secretary,- Cass Powers treasurer.
