The Florence Iron and Steel Works of Indu-try, formerly the Darnall mills, is being repainted and repaired and it is rumored that it will he started up again soon. A large amount of wages is due the workmen and they now have some hopes of getting it.—Muncie Timet. There came very nearly being a second tire yesterday, just across the street from the tirst, in the Newhouse property. A mattress was thrown across some hot pipes in the cellar of the house and a small tire was the result. The blaze was extinguished before the lire department was called. A lady in Greencastle a year or so ago by an unfortunate error burned up |3Q in bills. She was greatly distressed but at the suggestion of a newspaper reporter the wreck of her pocket hook was sent to Washington and in due course of time she received back $30 in new hills. She could have had gold for the asking. Good money is the kind for everybody. There is no flat in that. Henry Kimble was out driving a team composed of a mule and a young horse last evening. Henry was “breaking” one of the animals and the team got away from him. They ran up Seminary street and down Morton avenue to Bloomington where Henry at last pulled them in to one of John Sandy’s fine shade trees, which was beautifully skinned. No great damage was done hut that part of the city was right
lively for a time.

The animal reunion of the descendants of Wi.liam (Jhri.-tie will he held Tuesday, Aug 25, at the home of Martin Christie, near Montclair, at Which time 150 members of the Christie family are expected to congregate. These reunions are annual affairs and have always proved successes. The history of the family is read at each reu ni m; it traces the family genealogy back to 1758 when the first Christie of them all landed in / menca and settled where the town of Lancaster, I*a., now Stands.—Hen \rich* County Gazette «). D. Swain, the genial freight agent of the Vandalia line, is now one of the most disconsolate young gentlemen of the city. “Date” is a member of the once impregnable Big Four of bachelors—Ed. Abrams, John Dunlavy, W. McC. Brown and O. D. Swain. Mr. Brown was the first to leave the quartette, Mr. Dunlavy deserts i ext week; it is but a question of a week or so until Mr. Abrams does likewise and tins leaves Mr. Swain alone in the world. Date bitterly complains that his friends have played him false. C. N. McWethy has decided that Greencastle is all right and after giving the city a thorough test on business matters has decided to greatlv enlarge and improve his laundry plant. He went to Cineinnati last Saturday and bought a new wringer, a new washer, a neckband ironer, a bod> ironer. and a sleeve ironer. These machines will strive soon and uiil he added to the present equipment. In order to acconimouate the rapidly growing business J.C. Baker will enlarge the present quarters of the plant and will put in on the east side of the block a new room, in which all hut tiie ironing department of the laundry "ill he located. The work on the new room which will be half the length of the presei t room, began today. The new machinery which lias been bought at an outlay of $600 added to what is now in will make the Greencastle laundry secon 1 to none in Indiana cities tiie size of this. Win. E. Stafford, of Clay township, Morgan county was in the citv ihi< afternoon with a pocket full of gold samples which he had taken from his gold mine eight miles north of Martinsville. He had one piece that contained 08 cents worth in pu-e gold and says he lias mined one piece that is worth $0. Mr. Stafford has a good strong pair of longs and easily talked some of the few silverites in the city to a standstill in front of Landes drug store. He is a s.m of F. M. Stafford one of the largest
land owners in Morgan.
The employees at both depots are sometimes seriously hindered in the discharge of their duties by the large number of boys and even young men hanging around the baggage and waiting rooms. The loafers frequently display almost criminal carelessness or audacity in mo'diig about the trains. The agents of the roads promise that the laws against hoarding moving trains will be strictly enforced from now on.

The Young Men’s Republican club meets tonight in the Mayor’s office at 7:30 o’clock. Turnout hoys. See call in another column. M. D. Bridges arrived from West Baden today.
