f’herles W. Landes shows some excellent samples of pears. He has three large red tinted ones that are from a collection of seventeen that grew on a grafted Hmb of a tree. Mr. Landes’ father grafted the limb several years ago and the name of the variety of pear is not known. It is beautiful fruit. There will be no new depot in North Greencastle until after the election. The Motion has stopped the building of all depots under way of construction atid those projected, shut down the Salem stone crusher and is reducing expenses in every way possible until the tlnancial question is settled—which means, its management though democratic, is not silver crazy. John Roberts lias received a letter from A. R. Allison of Bainbridge, offering Cae city team an opportunity to play against Crawfordsville and Ladoga at Bainbridge about August 20. The plan is to hare the three teams to cast lots to see which two play in the forenoon, aud the winner to play the third team in tint afternoon. Mr. Allison oilers a purse of twenty-five dollars and will furnish the halls and also furnish the umpire. The offer will he accepted and a good representative city team organized for the occasion. There are two tomatoes in the show window of Abrams’ store that weigh four pounds. They were raised by C. W. Fox of Greencastle township. Prof. John Poucher will preach at Locust Street church tomorrow morning on the “Benefits of Church Life.” Other services as usual. Dr. G. P. Jenkins will preach at night. Yesterday must have been a very busy day in Greencastle, as today’s weekly Democrat says everything occurred “yesterday.” Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Bierly passed through the city today on their way home to Bloomington from West Plains, Mo. Mrs. B. F. Hays, who has been visiting relatives here, returned to her Uo,u>«> in Worthington today.
