The Banner Times force is living in high anticipation in view of the fact that on tomorrow a cooking school is to he established next door. We stand ready to serve as a tasting committee. An exchange wound up a compliment to a young schoolma’am with a good word about “the reputation for teaching she bears.” The next day the infuriated schoolmistress met the editor and chased him down the street with a blue timbtella, and every jump in the road she screamed that site had never taught a site hear in all her life. An exchange furnishes this recipe for breaking boysof the cigarette habit: “Try bribery, persuasion or the shutting otTof his allowance. If lie remains obdurate, use rawhide on rawhide— welt him until he is ready to hold up his hands and promise to smoke no more of those little death dealers. If that does not stop him, drown him, as a drowned boy is better than one who smoke* cigarettes.” Maggie Statesman v<. -John Statesman the title of u divorce case tiled Saturday in Putnam circuit court. The plaintifl'says she was married to defendant on November 11, 1892, and lived together as Im-hand and wife until July 2G, 1895; that defendant has since two weeks after their marriage been guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment of plaintifl'. To show how little knowledge some people have on the postal laws and the consequent proneness of certain individuals to criticise the postal department. we quote the following incident. An excited man rushed into the local postollice Saturday and was mad all over. He had bought a money order, probably his first one, and instead of pigling the order in his letter and mailing the same, he folded it up caretnliy put it in Itis inside vest pocket and kt pt it as a receipt for the money paid for the same. He waited patiently for an answer to his ietter, which answer never came. His ire was aroused and of course he jumped on to the employes of Uncle Sam who htul done their part of the work in the correct and routine way. The postal system of the country ► an admirable one but it will not work correctly if such blunders as the above are made. Kickers should lx 1 patient as the fault is often of their own mak-
ing.
