BRIEF MENTION.

A heavy snowstorm prevailed in western New York yesterday. Trains were much

but they are inconspicuous. Jackson yesterday was anxious ti know the state of public sentiment in regard to them, but would say nothing more than he has already said. There is now scarcely a doubt but that Kentucky will have jurisdiction of the eusi in the courts. Saturday afternoon the headless remains of Fourl Bryan were brought over from Newport, Ky., to an undertaking establishment in this city. Jackson and Walling were taken from their cells and led into tho presence of the murdered girl’s body. Standing about were the o deers, a sister and a brother of the vi-'Min, ami f iends from Greenea tie. J kson and Wi lling went through thi ordeal without flinching. In the proscnee of the corpse 'xith denied the crime, and each laid it upon the other. Later the prisoners were taken into a private room, where tho murdered girl's sistei made a touching apoeal to them to tell what disposition they hod made of the head. They resisted her pleadings with the same stolid indifference that has marked their conduct from the first. In the evening the Greencustle party left with the remains for home. William Wood was in Greeneustle on Saturday, but it is said that so many threats wore made against the suspected confederate of Jackson and Walling that he was hurriedly taken away in the afternoon. He is hack in Cincin-

Coal exists in enormous qu intities and it i siipjiosed that there is gold.
