Sheriff Glidewell would go without tiis meals to get a joke off on some one, and his best friend is not safe in his hands. This morning an old gentleman walked into the auditor's otlice and seeing Auditot Denman asked tlie sheriff who he was. Glidewell answered that lie was from Montgomery county and was so deaf that lie could not hear himself think, etc., etc. He then walked up to Denman and yelled several sentences in his ear, and Denman kept up the fun by answering as a deaf man should. The old gentleman believed the joke for a while but finally found out liis mistake but not until Glidewell had disappeared. There will he a funeral over at the court house some day. The suit of Elizabeth Ross vs. the city of Brazil and J. E. Sherfey began grinding in the Clay circuit court Tuesday. The attorneys in the case are G. A. anil A. W. Knight for the plaintiff, and S. A. Hays and F. D. Ader, of Greencastle, and James A. McNutt and Rawley & Hutchenson for the defendant. The Brazil Ifrnwrrat says the suit grows out of injuries Mrs. Ros« claims to have re ceived one day in February 1895. It was very cold weather and the pavenents were covered with iee. She was passing Sherfey & Kidd's furniture store when, it is claimed, one of the wooden bars in the grating in front of store broke, letting one of her limbs pass through. She was in a delicate condition at the time, and the plaintiff claims that the shoek of the fall caused miscarriage and injured her for life.

Boys ••Pitch In."

Boye, the world is wide. If yon wish to be somebody “pitch in.” The brave always have friends. Where others have gone, you can go. If the old tracks don’t suit you, make new ones. Success is never attained without effort. If you fail, try it again. If it’s dark strike a light. Are you in the shade? Move around: for if there is shade on one side there is sunshine on the other. Take time, boys; don’t go too fast. Go slow, especially until you know the road or become acquainted with your team. Mind your own business. Don’t stop to retail gossip; but go right on, stiaight ahead and you’ll

get there.—/.V.
