Ids langu ige. and aside from being a perfect linguist is an exceptionally tine singer. He will sing tomorrow morning at the Catholic church at the funeral of Mrs. Bodemer. (’apt. Frakes, who works at Browning’s Hanna street meat market, suffered an irreparable loss Saturday afternoon. Cap.’s troubles is the same old story of tiie man who tries to coax a fire with kerosene. There was an explosion, ap odor of singeing hair, some burnt clothes and a number of burns on the victim. But in this case the loss was even greater, for M r. Frakes’whisker* which lias stood the rigors of thirtytwo winters, went un in the smoke and left him so that his most intimate friends would scarcely know him. Then too. an iron clad oath is broken. In 18G0, when Stephen A. Douglas ran fm president, Frakes, who then lived in Missouri and was a staunch democrat, took an oatli that he would never shave until Douglas was president, and until Saturday’* episode he lias kept his word. About throe years ago Cap. joiued-the G. O. P. and he now thinks that it was an act of Providence that removed a democratic growth of whiskers which if allowed to vote woald have voted for president twice. He thinks that with a new set of republican whiskers he will be right in the push. The remains were left with Coroner E. H. Kleinbub te preserve in alcohol. Captain Frakes now says lie will not shave again until a republican iselected president, which he confidently tliiuks will occur next fall. An exchange says: “The printing press has made uresidents, killed poet*, furnished bustles for beauties and punished genius with criticism. It has curtailed the power <>f kings, converted bankers into paupers and graced pantry shelves. It has made paupers out of college presidents; it has educated the homeless, rnd robbed the philosopher of Ins reason; it smiles and cries and dies, hut it can’t he run to suit everybody, and the man will go crazy who

tries.

Mrs. D. L. Anderson, of this city, and Mrs. J. D. Strachan, of Brazil, have •‘aeh received a handsome deer head, antlers and all, superbly mounted by a western taxidermist bearing the sobriquet, of “Buckskin Charley.” The heads are presents to the ladies from their father, who is in Montana. With the Pennsylvania companv taking full control of the Yaudaliu thc new equipment for passenger service which is to be run on trains 20 and 21 will he put in service. It is claimed that these trains will be the handsomest in the country. The telephone company have been repairing their system this week. This will give them facilities to put in a n imberof additional instruments which have already been applied for. The Monon surveying party,of which Chas. and y. L. Cooper and Matson were members, has completed the survey for the proposed coal road. The party arrived here Saturday. Rumors of a new bus line are to be heard on the streets. Said bus line it L said will he in running order by March 1. Frank Klciuhtib, Dan Kelly, and

It. “A Moit«*y Or<l**r,” Jtilr Walters’ earnest and coiiicientious endeavor to supply the theatre going public with something new', has secured the beautiful comedy drama, “A Money Order,” from Seymour S. Tibbals the author of many successes. Mr. Watters, as is well know, is an original comedian, Ids delineation of tiie character parts which he lias undertaken during Ids career as a star haproven him so beyond a doubt. The play itself, “A Money Ordea,’’ is a comedy drama of unusual interest, contrived and skillfully worked out by its author. ’J’liere are many comedy scenes in the piece and the scenic embellishment are said to be unusually attractive.
