Gentlemen:—1 believe it my duty to write you a line in regard to the nenetlolal ctlVcts of 3’our “Four-f Remedy,” s») far as I am personaflv concerned. A wc« k ago last rimrs«lay I was taki n xvith a very seven* attack of lai Grippe, and in a short time bocan e so hoarse l could not speak above a whisper. I was confined to my bed the greater partof several days. The night previous I had coughed nearly the entire night; just before retiring 1 took a teaspoonful, and slept the entire night as sweetly as ever l did in mv life, not coughing once. I was entirely relieved before taking one bottle. Phelps’Cough, Cold and Croup < ure should be in every household in the land. 1 send you this wholly unsolicited by any one, for you are benefactors of tin* race in giving it the antidote for some of the worst afllicatlons to which it is heir. Yours very truly,

WC ENJOY UNBROKEN REST AT NIGHTS. Chicago, November 22, 1893.
R. K. Phelps, Esq.
Dear mr:—As a rule I have been skeptical of the merits of proprietary medicines, but have to confess that a test of ymn Four “C" is convincing that at lease one ready-made remedy is worthy of general use. My children all take it without the least objection, and it is particularly noticeable that benefit is almost immediate. A simile dose will check most coughs in the beginning. We now enjoy unbroken rest at night. In my family Four “G” is aim pi v indispensable, and I recommend it uuqualifb'dly. Yours, Kte.,

An Attentive (iallnnt. Among (he audience at one of the popular theaters were a young man and a young woman who appeared to be either newly married or on the verge of it. The young man was as attentive its he could be, and the young woman, who wore nil the earmarks of a spoiled child, took all his litt le kindnesses as a matter of course. Between the first and second acts the courteous gallant whispered to his fair one for a moment, and she nodded her head affirmatively. The yonng man arose and went ont of the theater through a door leading to an adjoining candy store. He returned a few minutes later accompanied by a colored boy in white coat and apron, who carried in one hand a tray with a glass of soda water upon it and in the other n napkin. Ho stood in the aisle while the young man besought his lady to refresh herself with the glass of soda. The eyes of the entire audience were upon them. The young woman sniffed at the glass disdainfully and waved it aside. A facetious youngster in the front row of the gallery ruthlessly fractured the prevailing silence with the suggestion: “Slap 'er on de 'rist, de sassy t’iug. Get ’er some shampy. fcfiie don’t want none o' yer temp’rauoe drinks.” The young man blushed and sat down and looked miserable during the -cst of the play.— Philadelphia Record. An Old I.ave 1 ptter. Poixv—As tho heavens yield gloomy aspects, making null and void my timidical feelings, I sit down to promulgate to you, most holy and immaculate virgin, that I hold a kind of biennial reverenne for your most sacred charms, but owing tothe intense frigidity of the circumambient atmosphere it has disoomboborated my respiration like a ship tossed on the tumultuous ocean in sight of the delightful land and then tossed back again. Oh, if there is nny tender pity lies within that snowy bosom, delay- my raging passion, or I shall doubtless pass out of this world in a hurricane of sighs to that sweet elyslan which gives dreams of consolation to heal lovesick hearts. On one occasion Queen Victoria, Louis Philippe and the Duke of Wellington paid a visit to Eton college. They were invited to sign the visitor’s book. The French king thoughtlessly took np the w j t |, pen and signed bis name at the top of ' the page. Etiquette, however, forbade Queen Victoria to sign her name under any other. 8he therefore signed on the top of the next page. She then took np the pen and handed it to the Duke of Wellington, who was so excited at the contretemps that he actually signed his name “ Weggington. ” And, by the way, it may lie recorded that etiquette forbids the queen to converse with tradesmen. When a purveyor waits upon her, the queen addresses her remarks to an equerry, who in turn addresses the ex pectant merchant. —Philadelphia Times.

The contestants from the junior class for the oratorical held their primary last night, Messrs. Ewing, Woodson, Chas. Smith, and Debonn being the speakers.
