Word is sent from Chicago of the critical illness of Dr. T.. P. Walter. Mr. Walter is well known here having visited this city as a specialist for over live years. The Over the Teacups club will meet on Tuesday afternoon at 3:110 o’clock at the home of Miss Genevieve Ames 505 east Washington street. The book to be discussed is “Ardath.” You cannot kill squirreis now, legally. The limit was reached on Thursday last at noon, and you lay yourself liable to prosecution if you kill them before June 1st next. It is also unlawful to kill quail. Regular meeting of the Gentlemen's Literary club next Monday evening at 7:30 p. m. at the residence of Dr. G. C. Smythe. Dr. J. C. Ridpalh will present a paper on “Is History a Science?” This will be an open meeting. The democrats of Greencastle township met this afternoon in the sheriff's ollice and elected T. C. Grooms delegate to the Fifth district democratic convention whith meets at Terre Haute Jan. 8. A member of the Democratic State Central committee - , will be named on that date for this district. George W. Hughes was elected alternate. Mr. and Mrs. E. Percy Parks arrived home last evening from Berlin, where they were married a few weeks ago while both were attending scliool taking advanced training in music. Coming home they stopped at Yonkers, New York, and visited relatives of Mrs. Parks, who is a native of Poland.— iliirtinsville Iteporter. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hurst entertained a number of tneir friends at tea last evening at their home on we t Poplar street. Among those present were: Misses Jennie Black, Kate Hammond, Helen Hathaway. Eliza Daggy, Lida and Kate Grooms and Messrs. Joe McClary. Ed Black, Andrew Hanna i nd Laurence Black. After partaking of a bountiful repast the evening was spent in pleasant conversation, and all went home well pleased with the even-
ing’s entertainment.
At live o’clock yesterday afternoon the fire department was called out by the burning of a line in the house occupied by “Bro.” John Frazier, colored, on Hill street. No damage was done and the department returned without having thiowu any water. The property belonged to James Hurley. Toe alarm was brought in “foot hack” by a colored hoy who excitedly announced that the rock quarry w as on fire! The only loss sustained was a few shingles wliicii were torn off to investigate the cat of the Iir ‘.
