Yesterday was a “red letter” day at tbe Christian church. The large audiences, the deep interest, and the number of additions show that the revival has taken a deep hold upon the community. The sermon upon “Love” was so beautiful and scriptural that all were greatly blest. There were six additions and twenty nine others received into the church. Tbe entire front seats from wall to wall, were occu pied by' the new converts, It was a beautiful and impressive scene as they all sat down for the first time at the Lord's Supper. Before six o’clock last night people were being turned away for want of room. The discourse upon “The Poverty of Jesus” made a profound impression upon the great throng and at the close ten persons came forward to accept Christ. Mr. Boyer touched all hearts as he portrayed the sufferings of the Son of God. It was a most blessed and precious service. Other towns are feeling the effects of this great meeting. Tired, Weak, Nervous
Hood’s Sarsaparilla Restores Strength and Bodily Vigor. The cause of Hint tired, weak, nervous condition, in which so many people thid themselves, is tbe failure of the blood to
properly nourish the nerves and tissues. Feed tho nerves upon pure blood, and they will be steady and strong. Read this: “It Is with pleasure that I recommend Hood’s Sarsaparilla as an excellent nerve tonic Mrs. C. H. Van able and blood purifier. Kelthtburg, DL J have taken It more than once and am taking it now. I was tired, my body ached, and I felt very bady all over. I was afraid I would be sick. I thought 1 would take Hood’s Sarsaparilla, and It Haa Cured Me, and I find that it is cheaper than the doctor’s bills. Hood’s Pills are the beet I have ever taken and 1 use no other. I am
glad to have an opportunity to recommend Hood’s Sarsaparilla.’’ Mrs. C. H. Venable, Keithsburg, 111.
A large audience beard Df. J. II. Hollingsworth at College Avenue church yesterday morning on ‘ Entire Sanctification, or the Second Blessing ” The text we,8 1 These., v 23: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and 1 pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ.”
After a few introductory remark* the speaker propounded the que - tion, “What do Metho iisis mi a i by entire sanctification, or Chris tian perfection?” He said: We do not mean (1) absolute perfection. God only is perfect in thi» *eiH*‘. We do not mean, (2) angelic perfection, or Adamic perfection. We do not mean (3) sinless perfection. Mr. Wesley says in “PUin Account of Christian Perfection,” “I never use mat term.” We utterly repudiate the, term. There is no such thing on earth as “sinless perfection,” and we do not and never have taught it; neither does any other church of which we have any knowledge. We do not mean (4) perfection of knowledge, and wisdom, or practice. The imperfections in our knowledge and wisdom result in mistakes in our daily life. We do not mean (5) a state of grace in which we cannot lie tempted. The holiest will be tempted as long as they live on earth. Jesus, the sinless one was tempted. We do not mean (6) the perfection of “the spirits of just men perfect” after the death of the body, or the perfection of the resurrected. This kind of resurrection Paul, in the third chapter of Philippians, disclaims, but in the 15th verse of the same chapter he claims another kind of perfection— Christian perfection. We mean by his term a relative and limited perfection ; the kind of perfection a chritlian may

have in this world. Entire sanctification, or Christian perfection, or perfect love—for these a '* lifterent names for the same thin;, negatively, is that state of grac** which excludes all sin from tbe heart, and positively, is the possession of a pure love to God. “The blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sin.” “The end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart.” In treating of sin, in its relation to man, we inust leim-mber that, in the unrenewed person, it exists in two forms, as sin and sins, sin as a disease, and sin as an act. “In the grace of justification, sins, as acts of transgressions, are pardoned. In the grace «f sanctification, sin. as a malady or pollution, is removed, so that the heart is pure.” When guilt is forgiven in justification, and all pollution is removed in entire sanctification, so that the pure and perfect love of God ‘ully possesses tbe soul, then the moral condition is reached to which the word if God gives the name of perfection, or entire sanctification. We believe that full provision is niude by our Savior, for both the forgiveness of our trangressions and tbe healing of our malady. The Scriptures declare that i lirist "was manifested, that he might destroy the works of tbe deyil.” Inbred sin, or what 1’aul calls tbe “carnal mind,” or "old man," is tbe work of the devil, be can destroy it. Sin lias i in nosed no burden on us that He can not take away, no pollution that He cannotVleanse, no darkness He cannot dispel, do sorrow He cannot heal. He bears in His pierced palm a balm of healing for sin's disease. As far as sin has plunged us into the depths of its blackness, so far can Jesus Christ come to deliver us. “Thou shall call his mime Jesus; for he shall save bis people from their sins.” “Who gave himself for ns. that he might redeem us from oil iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” "And ye know that be was manifested to take away our sins.” This was his mission to this each. Is his mission a failure? Is it possible that be cannot cleanse us, as far as sin has polluted us? Some claim that we must sin as long as we are in this body. Then Jesus Christ is not as great a Savior as Satan is a destroyer. If we must sin in this life, (meaning by this, the “voluntary transgression of a known law’’) bow much may we sin, and whut kind of sin may we commit? Who would assume tbe responsibility of telling us just bow much one might lie, or steal, or commit adultery, or cheat; or how much envy, hatred, malice, pride and so on, be may retain
in his heart ?
Jesus is a Saviour for us in this present life. It is bis purpose that “we, lieing delivered out of the hand of ene mies, (sin is one of them) might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life," Luke i, 14. This certainly includes this present life. We do not need to be taken out of the hotly, as some think, in order to be delivered from sin. The body cannot sin. Death is not our purifier. Death is tbe product of sin, bow then can it purify us? If we look to it as a purifier we do not believi tbe plain declaration of tin* Word, "the blood of Jesus Christ bis Bon, cleanseth us from all sin.” We have a complete Saviour, who can save, “even unto the uttermost, all who J came into Gcd by him.”
