School KxerrUen, The Christmas exercises of the third ward school were ”iven yesterday afternoon in the assembly room of the High School building. The interest of the patrons was evinced by the large and appreciative audience which tilled the room to overflowing before time for opening of tlie exercises. The principal features of the program were: “The Brownies’’ from the first and second grades, a drill of Japanese maidens and a cantata “Santa Claus’ Delight,” made up from most, if not all, the different giades. ‘‘The Brownies” in their comical uniforms, acted so cleverly as to call back an encore, which was kindly given. Santa Claus, with jingling bells and Christmas pack, appeared in per son; hewever, judging from the very joyous reception given him b\ the little folks, we think they would be pleas d to see him much oluner tnan on these his annual tours The exercises as a whole were ver\ entertaining. At The First Ward. Appropriate exercises in com memoralion of Christinas were held in the public schools yesterday. At the first ward building the scholars of Misses Jones, Hammond and Adams united their exercises and gave a very interesting program Miss Alspaugh’s room gave a program consisting of songs and recitations. which were delivered in a highly creditable manner. The seventh and eighth grades under Miss Jordon gave a Chustmas cant«ta entitled. ‘Santa Claus and Uncle Sam.” The exercises were a description of a convention of delegates from the principle powe.is of the world, led by Uncle Sam, the land of Santa Claus. The scholars wore costumes peculiar to the nation each one represented and a very good entertainment was given. The decorations through the building were quite elaboaate and the attendance of parents and friends of the scholars was unusually large.

Christmas shoppers will consult, their owu interests by noting the advertisements of individuals and firms who have appropriate and de sirable goods for sale. It stands to reason that those who are enterprising enough to call attention to their line of wares through the col utuns of the newspapers are pre pared to offer better inducements than the non-advertisers whose hits iness policy is to trust to luck.
