plications arising from it was the cause of his death. The funeral will occur Wednesday morning at 10:30 o’clock. Services at the family residence. Deceased was sixty-six years old and was one of the best known citizens of Green castle. He was the father of eight children. The Woman’s Home Missionary society will hold its regular meeting with Mrs. Bayne on Wednesday Pee. 18. at 2:30 o’clock. The meeting will be one of special interest. The object of the Home Missionary society will be given by Mrs. Bayne. It is hoped that each member will make an effort to be present, that we may know more of the purposes and work of the society. It is reported that diphtheria is raging in Roachdale, hut upon inquiry at the office of the secretary of the county board of health we tind that no cases have beon reported there. Mrs. Dr. Briggs, who lias been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dan Langdon, lias returned to her home ai Sullivan. Andrew Black went to Clayton tliis morning on business. This end was alive with tramps last evening and it looked for a time as though a national convention of them was going to be held on the strip. Policeman Riley and James Campbell did a good woik when they' escorted them out of
town.
The Greencastle foundry this morning made the largest casting ever moulded in the city. It weighed 8000 pounds and is onefourth of a turn table. Every thing worked nicely and the time required to pour the metal was one minute and six seconds. The cast ing was quite a feat for the tor.ndrj. George Whittaker, oi Cloverdale township, had a narrow escape from wliat would certainly have been a fatal accident this morning at the electric light crossing on t!ie Van dalia. Max Whittaker is slightly deaf and failed to hear the express trom the east which was almost up on him and was running at fast rate oi speed. His horses were upon the truck before he saw his danger. Luckily one of the team was a colt and becoming frightened pulled hack from the track just as the train whizzed by. There will lie a bad accident there one of these
days.
