James Downs is one of the very oldest employes in point of service in the employ of the Vandalia line. He has been on the road ever since it was built. In fact, Mr. Downs assisted in buildii g the Vandalia. having run a construction train while the lust fifteen or twenty miles were being put down. He was also on the first train which passed over the road. When the coal branches at Brazil were put it Mr. Downs assisted in the work. He has been foreman of the Greencastle section for thirty-five years. It is likely the Vandalia will retire him with full pay before another year.—
