by the pupils ot Miss Rowley and Mr. Schellschmidt at music hall j last night. The performers aej quitted themselves with credit and . gave unmistakable evidence of the fact that they are wisely using the ! opportunities for improvement which their instruction by r aide

teachers affords them.

As was to be expected, the re cital brought before the public pupils iu different stages of ad vancement but all manifested musical talent and gave promise of | future excellence. Among those

playing deserves special

mention were Miss Kilgore and Miss Scott though the former rendered certain passages of Schubert Impromptu somewhat too hurriedly while the 'atter took the initial tempo of Moskowski's Serenade

rather too slow.

Miss Elliot gave Liszt’s Waltz Impromptu with much animation and excellent technique. The work of Miss Lucy Andrews and Messrs. Miles and McK , 'e on the violin was very commendable and highly appreciated by tbe an dience. A pleasing feature _ also, was the assistance which the String orchestra lent to the accasion. M.

defendant amounting to $100. was awarded to the plaintiff as alimony. Tne judge added that if the plain lilf had been without fault he would have required the defendant to make a suitable allowance out of bis salary for her. The result is a divorce for plaintiff, $100 «li mony and the change of plaintiff's name from Airs. Stanton to Bertha Darnall. Judge McGregor’* remarks in giving his verdict were compli mented by many of the hearers and the verdict is regarded by many who heard the evidence sis a very fair one.

The sermon last night by Mr. Boyer at the Christian church on “Tlie Impregnable Rock of Scripture” was u , gram', and successful defence of the Bible. It was intended for agnostics. One of the class remarked as he was leaving, “That was the best thing I ever heard on that subject.” The faith of all believers was greatly strengthened. No mere outline can do justice to the sermon. All positions taken were simply sustained by unanswerable arguments. and tlie brilliant rhetoric of the sp' iikeV threw a wonderful halo around the “Old Book.” All available space | was taken. Two after meetings were beld one in (lie library room and the other in tlie main audience room. There were two additions and one baptism. Seven were immersed at thej

afternoon service.
