The members of Sigma Chi traternity entertained their friends very elegantly on Monday evening. Frank Holler has gone home on account of sickness. He hopes to be able to return in time for the game next Monday. Messrs. Kahl and Fink, of I. U.. alter a visit with Phi Delt brothers and friends, returned yesterday to Bloomington. Coaeher Wade worked the boys hard yesterday. Miss Alice Sehwin is ill. Misses Duff, Yenne, Bates and Boseman went riding to Fern yesterday. Col. Weaver's seminarium class met yesterday. Ralph Norton read a paper on “Latin Union.” Miss Pearl Bassett, '94, has charge of Prof. Bassett’s class while he is away. Miss Susie Bates, of Mattoon, 111., is a pledged Alpha Phi. The revival meetings have been discontinued on account of the illness of Rev. Tillison. The DePauw foot ball team surprised everybody by defeating the state university team yesterday, 14 to 0. This is one of the most complete surprises as Bloomington is considered the best team in the state outside of Purdue. Truly this is a season of surprises in the

A.'sand Catholics at the first precinct of the Fourth ward. Late yesterday evening Joseph Diefenbach, one of the former, and Will Donovan, a Catholic, had a quarrel which resulted in a pitched battle between the elements. Twenty shots were exchanged before the police succeeded in stopping the riot. Only one man, Jacob Euriglit, an A. P. A., was seriously wounded. The rioters scattered.

Ball, the Repubbcau candidate for judge of the superior court, has defeated Morrison. his Democratic competitor, by 80,600. The Republicans elected five of the nine trustees for the #30,000,000 drainage canal. The terms of the election for these positions are that each party nominates five candidates and the one candidate receiving the smallest number of votes is defeated.

His majority is over 6,000 greater than two years ago. The Republican city ticket is elected, and the common council will contain three more Republican aldermen than last year. Of the 16 aldermen chosen, but three or four are Democrats.
