A SERIOUS MISTAKE.
Mr*. Churles I^teUTenbergsr Given a Hose
of Poison while Sick.
Mrs. Charlie PfeitFenberger, jr„ wlio has been sick several weeks with typhoid fever, was the untortunate victim of a mistake yesterday that may cost her her life. The nurse poured out a tea-spoon-ful of carbolic acid from a bottle that had been used as a disinfectant and had been left near, think ing it was medicine. Mrs. PfeifFenberger placed the spoon far back in her mouth and swallowed it quickly, as the medicine she had been taking and what she thought she was then taking, was very bit-
town—full t er ’ 8he complained immediately
of the medicine and the nurse then to her horror discovered her mis take. Dr. Poole, who was the family physician, was hurriedly summoned, and upon his arrival he saw the seriousness of the case and administered oils, and sent an imfuediate summons for Dr. Tucker to bring down a stomach pump. Relief was given hut the shock and injury to her system coming as it did upon a case of typhoid fever makes the matter of recovery very
doubtful.
Mrs. Pfeiffenberger is reported some better today.

Dr. John at ton A large audience heard Dr. John lecture at the old college chapel last night on the subject, “Did Man make God or did God Make Man?” There have been many replies to the witty agnostic and ora tor, Robert G. Ingersoll, but none we are sure, which surpass Dr. John’s effort last night in clearness of expression, aptness of illustration and cogency of logic.— Hioomintjton Telephone.
The Girl Who Works. “The girl who works—God bless her. She is brave and active. • She is not too proud to earn her own | living nor ashamed to he found at her daily task. She is studious, painstaking and patient. She smiles from behind the counter or desk. Her smile is the reflection of celestial grandeur and eternal bliss. There is a memory of her own sewn In each silken gown. She is like a beautiful mountaineer— her character is pure as the hub- ! bling spring, strong as the rock from which it flows and as high as ! the mountain's topmost pinnacle. | The sisilit of her should be a fine inspiration for us all. Her hand may he stained by dish washing, sweeping, or factory grease hut it is an honest and helping hand. It stays misfortunes from many homes; it is one shield that protects many a forlorn little family Irom the almshouse and asylum. All honors to the girl that works.” — Kxcha nye.
