Coiiterno*a Band. Those who fail to attend the concerts of the Conterno band in this city tomorrow will miss the best opportunity they have had to hear such music at home since the appearance of Gilmore several years ago in Meharry hall. The band is a rival of Sousa's and contains over forty musicians. The Terre Haute Express says: The Ninth Regiment Band of New York, under the leadership of Luciano Conterno, gave a delightful concert at the o|>era house last night. It ought to have baen a fashionable event but perhaps it was not full}’ realized that the Ninth Regiment is a crack organization of the East, its band of famous musical combination and that Conterno is a band master of renown; though not as yet so familiar to the west. On his portly front last night, were hung some medals that tell of his experience and services. There was a massive gold I medal, such as presented by every | member of the national guard, w ho has honorably served twenty-live years. There are but eight living who have

Thomas T. Foster, of Amo, was run over by a Vandalia train Wednesda} as he was walking from Coatsville to his home. His head was cut ofTand he was otherwise badly mangled. Mr. Foster was formerly a citizen of this county and a brother of Wiley O. Foster. He moved to Amo about two months ago. The time of tlie Monon Flyer set: a new pace in the west, and will doubtless cause the other roads to attempt to equal it. General Manager McDoel is watching the new train with a tended eye and is liktdy to further test its running capacity by having it run late and see if it can make up the time, and if so

will make an even shorter schedule.

The W. F. M. S.. of the Greencastle district, convened in the Methodist church, Tuesday evening, Mrs. A. T. Kelley, of Greencastle, presiding. An entertaining program was given. The music was the usual high order, solos being given by Mrs. W. II. Gillum and Orrie Vessels. The greeting was delivered by Mrs. Julia H. Meacham In choice and eloquent language. The response was by Mrs. McKinsey, conference secretary, who is a nost in nerself, and without whose presence a district meeting would lose more than half of its interest and success. The address

ftiimlay School Convention. On next Wednesday there will be held the Annual County Sunday School convention in the Christian church of this city. There should be a large attendance at this meeting. Much depends upon it. If a convention is to be held at all it should prove that there is a strong Sunday school sentiment. If a few gather when many should come, it fails to give encouragement. Sunday school workers of tlie city may by indifference send home the delegates from different parts of the county with a discouraged feeling and thus damage the work of the county. And, too, the workers from other parts of the county by remaining at home may depress the spirits of all others. I desire to urge those engaged in Sunday school work in all parts of the county and in the city that much depends upon their presence in this convention. R. A Goo.
