hall. This will be the professor’s first appearance in a recital before a DePauw audience and he should be greeted by a large audience. (.prizes seem to be the order of

the day at present.

Wabash continues to boast of what she expects to do to our foot ball team on Saturday. It is well enough to do her talking before the game. The Banner Times has not been hired to talk for the DePauw foot ball team. The team will do

its own talking.

We ought to have a large crowd accompany the team to Crawfordsville tomorrow. Studies for the week will be over and every one that can possibly go should do so. There is nothing that so encourages

j a team as plenty of “rooters.”

Manager Meade should certainly ] get a suit and practice foot ball, j His work on interference such as be did yesterday, is simply grand. But few men within our knowledge are able to form an interference

which will safely take a

the ball down the entire length of

the field.

The foot ball practice of yester j day was the besT practice ever witj nessed here. An exceptionally hard practice game was played of thirtylive minute halves. The work of every man on the team seems to be rapidly improving ti"der the coaching of Mr. Wade The Yale manner of punting is proving itself far superior to the old way and a number of new tricks and plays are giving much strength to the team. At a meeting of the Athletic hoard last night the resignation of Hlias. Landes as a citizen director, was read and accepted. The vacancy was filled by the election of Mr. Lee D. Mathias. Mr. Landes was compelled to resign on account of ill health. We believe there could have been no better man elected to (ill the vacancy than Mr. Mathias. For several years he was connected with the athletic association and at all times lie has shown marked interest in athletic affaiis. Miss May Danielsisat Richmond today attending a Y. W. C. A. con-

Ward left here Tuesday with his wife, ami it is thought he is out of the country by this time. S. C. Tool Ward’s father-in* law, has already taken up $15,000 of tin*

Springfield, Ills., Oct. 18. — The southbound passenger train on the St. Louis, Chicago and St. Paul railroad— Bluff line—ran into an open switch yesterday and collided with a number of freight cars. The engineer, fireman and bridge inspector, who were on the engine, jumped. The engineer, Sidney Long, broke his skull. He was taken to Ht. Louis, where he died Inst night. John Carpenter, who brought a damage suit against t he city of K1 wood for $5,000,
