There were mysterious rumors around i tlie First National hank yesterday of! an apple combine. Reports reached the hank that apples, great red and yel-
villc and that the finest could lie had for fifteen cents a bushel. At once visions of wealth greater than could be gained at the prevailing rate of interest appeared before the eyes of the bunkers and a campaign was inaugurated. Messrs. G. H. Williamson and J. F. Durnall secured a buggy and posted off in hot haste, and Mr. T. C. Hammond later not to be outdone sent down a t wohorse wagon. Messrs. Williamson and Darmill arrived home in the afternoon without any apples and Mr. Hammond's wagon ts still out in the wilds of Warren. It is hinted tha. the reason the rest of tlie force did not join in the mad flight was that they had to stay and keep shop. Some apples were there but they were high up in the air. in fact, their height from the ground overcame the low price. The ones nearest the ground had been picked and what were left could have been ha I at Hfteen cents but they were nearly out of tight. The apple combine was a campaign that
failed.
