about a better article than the Banner Times and when you speak in such endearing terms as you do this week we feel that our mission is succeeding. The hides of democratic newspapers these days are awfully tender and sensitive and the castigation they receive from republican newspapers hurts accordingly. Wo admonish our contemporaries not to tear their clothes, the organettein particular, as it shows evidence of being excited. It at last admits it is the organette.

Clovehdalk will have a meeting on the telephone question on Monday evening. They should take stock liberally in a company that will give them direct communion tion with Greencastle. In this age of electricity much time and unnecessary travel between the two towns could lie done away with by having a telephone line. All the towns in the county should aid iu building lines.

While the combined editorial talent of the democratic party is howling so vigorously in defense of Superintendent Mark, they should hustle around a little anti find out just what the late grand jury ae complished in the investigation of Mark and his farm. Something definite was “did” with the commissioners’ favorite olficer.

That was th* Subject of Mr. Ilurcham Herding'* Lecture Last Night. In spite of the weather a fair audience listenetl to the'lecture on Theosophy, and several ministers and professors were present, who closely questioned the lecturer and brought out much valuable information ; the general drift showing that the spirit of the age is departing from the materialistic dogmas and forms to put in their place a devotion to humanity, the true foundation of religion, and a practical application of the teachings of J cans. In other words to put the real spirit behind the formulas

and forms.

The lecturer said in part: “Brotherhood is where all the parts of a society work together for the general welfare. Whilst all the organs of the human body perform their fnnction>the man is strong and vigorous. If the heart becomes selfish and refuses to work, death ensues. If the liver he sluggish, suffering arises. SelHsliness is the cause of all suffering. If all practiced tlie law of brotherhood happiness would be general. The height of human perfection is brotherhood. Ail religious and secret societies have been based on brotherhood. Only through the mental and moral purification expressed by tiic practices of brotherhood can divine knowledge be gained. Religions of old bad their outer rituals, forms and services for the multitude, and their inner secret teachings for those ready

for initiation.

People in this country did not fire anj' guns or blow any horns over “returning prosperity” until tlie adjournment of the late con gress. This is a truth for the combined democratic editorial talent of Putnam to masticate next week.

obeying he laws of brotherhood in one life, the next is endowed with more talents and greater happiness. On the other hand, selfish use of our possessions entails their loss in the next earth life. Tins explains why some are born with so many of the good things of this life, and others without tuem. Each one reaps what lie lias sown. Man is his own creator and destroyer. “These laws show that we all come to tins world for different experience. Each has a special duty to perform. Its fultiliuient is our part in the general welfare. The real possessor of the wealth, health and intellect is tlie soul which earned them in a previous life, and now endows our personality with them. Th'-y must therefore be used for the soul, which is spiritual and sees no separation between itself and its broth-

“The preamble of the United States Constitution slates the same doctrine in saying it is “To promote the gener-ti welfare and secure the blessings of liberty.” We are enslaved by seltlshneos and must throw off tlie shackles hy applying the law of brotherhood to all relations, social, political and national. A meeting will be held this evening at 7:d0 o'clock at the office of Dr. H. II. Morrison. All interested iu studying Theosophy are invited to meet Mr. Harding, who will give suggestions thereon. Mr. Harding has also consented to speak this afternoon at 4 o’clock in Plato hall, What Happens after Death.”
