Mr. and Mrs.G. M. Black have issued invitations for a reception for the evening of Oct. 17. Hulda Peregrine, a little daughter of D. A. Peregrine, fell yesterday while at play and fractured an arm. George Thayer, of Greenfield, is quite si.-k at the residence of his grand parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ridp.'.lh. Mrs. W. H. McXary, who lias been visiting friends here, returned to her home at Martinsville, 111., this morning. Mrs. T. J. Whitten, w ho has been visiting at F. P. Huestis’, returned to her home at Xacomis, ill., today. Mrs. Huestis accompanied her. The''Contiary club” is the title that is being seriously considered as belonging to a party of our citizens who are still harping on the liiushaw ease. The novelty fair at Bainhndge was a great success yesterday. There were I2(M> people in attendance and the day’s festivities were greatly enjoyed. George Lazwell who walk an inmate of the Greeucastle jail for some time escaped from the Brazil calaboose as soon us he was taken hack there. Peter Ray, who lives near Reelsvilie, was struck in the eye yesterday by a sliver of steel from a drill. The object imbedded itself deeply and was removed with considerable trouble by Dr.
Tucker.
The Big Four will next Sunday run a cheap excursion to Cincinnati from Terre Haute. The tickets will he good ’ on trains going Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, and good to return on
Monday.

The O'Connell-Tobin troubles were in the mayor’s court this morn ing aud a very complicated case it was. Tobin had filed a complaint of assault and battery and O’Connell had filed a similar complaint against Tobin. The case was shrouded in mystery and as there were no witnesses to the affair the
case was dropped.
Alexander Reeves is moving to the country. L. T. Welch will occupy the property vacated by Mr.
Reeves.
H. 11. Hillis has been awarded the contract of furnishing crushed stone for the improvement of Capitol avenue at Indianapolis. The contract is a large one as it calls lor about 800 car loads of crushed stone, which must lie broken in two sizes. With this large order and other smaller ones which are constantly coming in it is probable
