It is stated that the Big Four is now handing on its system double the ipiantity of mail matter that it did two years ago. There are now three pos'al ears running daily on its line between Cleveland and St. Louis, and its mail matter carried between Cincinnati and Chicago is much heavier, although not so marked as the increase between the East and West. Raymond Waltz, who lias been manages of the local Western ITiion telegraph office for several years left for Indianapolis tins afternoon where he will take a course in dentistry. Dr. John’s lecture in English’* opera house last evening was to an audience winch tilled eveiy -e.,, below and in the balcony. Of the reception of the lecture which will be delivered in ibis city soon the Journal says: “The lecture | was given under the auspices of the j Christian Endeavor societies an. C ■. Epworlh leagues of the cily, win j fared well in he profit* of the eveiu The lecture required over two hours nu delivery. Notwithstanding the le ig, of the mldtess, the audience listened from the first lo the last word with profound attention. The lecturer had a sympathetic and at times an enthusiastic audience. He was frequently interrupted wiih applause. There were times when his earne*t periods brought the audience to a silence that allowed his lightest whisper, spoken with dramatic fotce, to be heard in the remotest pa> - t of the auditorium. The address was argumentative and strikingly forcible in its h gie. The resources of a scholarly and scientific mind, with no mean ability as an orator, enabled tlie speaker to handle the subject with great atttai ivetie-*. The theme was ••Did Man Make God or Did God Make Man?” It wa* written as a reply to Ingersoll, and the audience gave continuous evidence that the answer was perfectly satisfactory and complete. Religious minds were glad to welcome a champion who would reinforce their faitli by sticb a convincing and eloquent appeal to
their reason.”
