The tithletic ussociatiou is at an expense of about fifty dollars a day iu improving the athletic park. The Indianapolis Journal of yes-
terday devoted quite a little space j lig on bll8ineBg
to athletics at DePauw.
The seuiinariura of Political Seionee met last night and continued the discussion on the financial
problem.
Twenty six men were out for foot hall practice yesterday after noon and made an excellent show-
ing.
We have noticed that a number ot men who are candidates for the foot hall team are inclined to shirk from hard practice. If there is any one that will not make the team it is these very persons. It is useless almost for a team of untrained men to even attempt to play a team that has undergone a season of hard systematic practice. Playing foot-hall is iu several respects like horse racing. If you wish a horse to win a race he must be trained for it. His speed and power of en durance must he developed and he must he properly fed and cured for. It is these points that we believe the foot ball player should take note of, at least if he wishes to achieve any success as a player, j A number of the members of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority most elegantly entertained a number of their lady and gentleman friends at the home of Miss Ethel Arnold on east Seminary street last evening. The parlors were decorated with golden-rod and ferns. A number of excellent vocal tuid instrumental musical selections wers n ndered, which with games, conversation and refreshments made the occasion a
very pleasant one.
Messrs. Kuick, stultz and Ncwlin arc in Indianapolis today. The foot ball practice list con tains thirty-seven names. The line-up for Saturday will be: Swazey, right end; Mulroney, right tackle; Demaree, right guard; Rauch, center; Farrell, left guard; Davidson, left tackle; Pattison, left end; Sullivan, quarter hack; Clouser, right half hack; Reed, left half back; Ristine, full back; Cleland and Saltzgaber, substitutes.—('rawfonhi'Hle Journul. The Purdue foot ball team is getting into a condition that will eventually make it superior to any eleven that has represented the university. There is an abundance of material, all big, bony fellows and this year’s eleven will he a tower of strength. Robertson lias struck his right place as guard. He is wonderful iu interference and is always in the play. Webb has been sick for sev eral days but practices regularly. Kirchoff, a new man, weighing 227 pounds, 6 feet oj inches tall, is developing into a wonder, and will undoubtedly] find a place on the team, but who he will replace m the already strong line it is hard to say. Kercheval is doing splendid work in the center, and would make a strong, heavy end rusher. Young Esterline, as
year. It: interference they are unequalled. Mr. Balliett's system being the most complete ever attempted here. The new plays are winners and excite the admiration of all observers. The chief reason for the excellent work this season is the opposition afforded by the second eleven under ( apt. Washburn. The second is far above the ordinary.— Lafayette < 'ourier. 1 has.
