The Big Four had forty passengers for its one dollar excursion to Indianapolis this afternoon. Misses Emma Jones, Bessie Hammond and Margaret Jordan went to ludianopolis this afternoon. Mrs. George Blake, Mrs. Ann Oliver and daughter, Miss Ada and Mrs. Allen, arrived home from Kentucky last night. Judge McGregor will have to pass unon thirty-nine divorce cases in the Clay circuit court which begins on Monday. The afternoon trains took a large number of Greencastle people to Indianapolis at cheat* rates. Dr. John’s lecture attracted some of the students. Dr. J. P. D. John will till the pulpit at Trinity church, Chicago, Sunday. The pulpit of that church has been left vacant until a suitable man can be se-
cured.
Kev. L. 1). Moore, the new pastor of Locust Street church, and his wife arrived in the city today. A reception will be tendered them tonight at the residence of Prof. H. B. Longden. If persons using the telephones will stand away from the instrument a reasonable distance they will find they can hear and be heard a great deal plainer than in standing too close to the trans-
mitter.
Ed. Walls, assistant cook at the dormitory, slipped and fell this morning and striking his arm against a stone stairway fractured a bone of the fore arm at the elbow. Dr. Poole attended the
fracture.
X. L. Holloway, charged with selling patent medicine without a license; Oliver Cora, for assault and battery; Peter Carr,sr., for violating the Brazil tire ordinance and refusing to pay a tine, were three commitments to our
jail from Brazil last evening.
Mrs. Clara Miller left yesterday afternoon for Greencastle, fora snort visit with her sister. Mrs. Joe Bahr. After she concludes her visit she will accompany her husband to Alvalon, where lie has been stationed as a minister of the

Mrs. Dr. Aaron Wood is for a few days a guest of Mrs. and Kev. J. E. Newhouse. The past six years she has spent in South America wilh her son T. B. Wood, doing what she could in missionary work. When her son was called from the Argentine Republic to Peru on the west coast, she sailed with his family around Cape Horn to Lima, Peru, where she has been for four years teacning a young man to qualify him to preach, and he is now preaching. She w ill go soon to her son Joseph for winter quarters, who has charge of a church in Baltimore.

Oct. 13th, will make some changes in the running time of several of its express trains, but the ottlcials are not yet ready to give out what they will do. One of the officials, when asked if it was proposed to lengthen the time of the fast trains, answered: “No; that is not the direction the Big Four is going now,” and intimated that there were still some surprises in store for the Big Four's competitors as regards speed. It serves a man right who goes to church and closes his eyes when the contribution box goes around and afterwards ridicules the preacher, who picks up a newspaper that some one else pays for and tells how it ought to te edited, to get roped into a circus and then roar because he did not get ten times his money’s w-orth. He will die some time and the preacher that did not suit him will officiate, and the editor he abused will feel like writing: “It's a good
thing, push it along.”
