At a meeting of the athletic board last night a large amount of athletic business was desposed of. Mr. Sandy’s resignation as manager of the foot ball team was presented and accepted and Mr. Meade was elected manager. Prof. Priest was elected as the representative of the hoard t’o look after the work on the park. It was decided that the grandstand would he placed on the north side near the east corner. Committees were appointed to dralt a new constitution and to further investigate the matter of incorporation. The articles of incorpora tion were signed by the members of the board and Mr. Meade was given the authority to investigate what a grand stand and bath room would cost. At a meeting of the senior class yesterday afternoon the following officers were elected: President, Paul Gilbert; vice president, Watson L. Lewis, seeretary, Blanche Basye; treasurer, Frank Life; chaplain, H. L. Murray; class orator, Claud Hall; poet, Ada Kent; historian, Elizabeth Muhin; sargent at arms, W. A. Burk; asst, sargent at arms, Veiling Helm. About thirty men were on the foot ball field for practice yesterday and the work of both the first and second elevens was very satis-
factory.
Foot ball practice goes on at the old college campus every afternoon. About twenty were present and took part in the work yesterday. There is also considerable interest in tennis.—Bloomington Telephone. The new foot ball suits were here last night and plenty of men were out. The ’varsity team had all they could do to make headway against the numbers opposed to them. Retd, Histine, Pattison and Clouser distinguished themselves and “Simp” played his usual eccentric and successful game of tackling and running.—Crawfords-
rille Herald.
The change of the Purdue foot ball uniforms is a most decided improvement. Whoever conceived the idea of compelling a departure from the old song and dunce striped stockings to the new ones deserve a medal. * * * The DePauw foot hall eleven will not play here next Saturday. * * *
Another S|>*niOi Cruia«r Wrecked. Havana, Oct. 2.—Another Spanish warship har been lost. The cruiser Cristobel Colon has been wrecked in a storm near Cape Antonio and will prove a total loss. The crew were all saved after desperate work.

Itlock Coal Minor* Got an Advance. Brazil, Ind.. Oct. 2.—The block coal miners and operators allowed the advance asked for by the miners, and the new scale of 70 cents per ton went into effect yesterday. The demand was granted by the operators, notwithstanding a report is current that Ohio, uois anil Pennsylvania operators would refuse the miners an advance. The miners are receiving plenty of work and are greatly elated over the settlement. Fail are of a Look liiMtaiice Kider. Cleveland, Oct. 2.—S. Wilson, Jr., started at 6 o’clock last Saturday morning from Newark, N. J., to ride to Indianapolis in six days. Ho reached Northeast, Pa., at 2:;i0 o’clock yesterday afternoon, having covered 522 G miles in H8 hours and 40 minutes. He was compelled to abandon the ride at that place, his physical condition rendering it impossible for him to continue. J>HinocrHli<? 4'oii{{r*»Nt»L>iial Convention. Shelbyville, Ills., Oct. 2. — The Democrats of the Eighteenth congressional district yesterday nominated Edward Lane of Madison to finish the uuexpired term of tho late Congressman Remann.
