Or. CisHel. LaPorte Republican. It was the intention of Dr. Cissel. if he hud continued another year in LaPorte, to conclude his minis terial labors at the end of that time and settle down in our midst and quietly spend the remainder of his days. The appointment to the Cra w fordsville district has changed all this. He, however, does not in tend continuing longer in the active work of the ministry' than to fill the appointments that may be given him on that district, but the place of his location then will have to be determined by cin’ininstances. Dr. Cissel is one of the strong men of the Methodist connection. His influence in LaPorte has been great and always in the right direction. He is frank and sincere in all his utterances, but never offensive, for he is always a gentleman. We are sorry and we are glad because of his change. We regret to lose from our community so worthy a gentleman as the Doetor, and pleased to know, if he has to go, that his lot will he east in the most enlightened and cultured community to he found in the entire west. It is a very desirable place for even a preacher to live in.

In fishing for bass, whether tly or bait casting, it should te beneath the spirit and manliness of an angler to keep anything under a pound, unless so badly hooken as to make re-
covery extremely doubtful.
1 firmly believe that this little world we inhabit was so constructed that its internal machinery is so manipulated and run by the head engineer, that the angler who has lived and been actuated by this law of quality, rather than by .y" that of quantity, will be found, when vve the last trumpet is sounded and all goes up in blue smoke, to have had the greatest imber and most enjoyable outings; to h..ve had the longest and most exciting battles, and to have brought to the gaff'and net the biggest fish, and that to him will he assigned the best po d of the golden streams in “the land of the Hereafter/’ I adopted the uile.

Big Walnut, the fishing waters of this town, is not an ideal bass stream, but above the average for a stream of its size and volume of water. Had I he economy , f nature been so arranged that he could have knocked the fish off the limbs of the trees on the banks with bis pole, which was no doubt better adapted to that purpose than angling, tlie object of his going H-tishiiig would tlie sooner have been attained, and he, the chump fishei'Hiau, Hie more highly pleased with

The idea of sport being thus swallowed up in that of meat, necessarily precluded all thought of returning to the water Hie small fry, hence everything from tbiee inches up was held as meat and went to swell the day’s catch, The crude tackle, the “get there” manner of using it, hut, above all, the bulldog idea of tenariously holding on to everything coming to tlie hook, regardless of future supply and demand, was more than one making any claim to true angling could stand by anil see without a on test. as I have observed. If not an ideal tlyeastiug stream, it possesses many features tending to that end ; it has numerous bouldert d pools and riffles, and the caster who can get out sixty and seventy feet of line can coyer all its pools, and, as a rule, have a clear battle field. A number of three and four pound fish have been taken with tne fiv this season, and I would guess, from what little I have seen, that it can hold its own with many of the more pretentious waters of the state, if properly protected there i« no reason why it should not grow into a prolific bass stream. But, as there was never a flower so pure and hi'uiitiful as not to be plueked by some devastating hand, as there could not have lieen a heaven without presupposing a hell, no more can there he a beautiful and fruitful bass stream that does not. sooner or later, fed the blight ing touch of the dynamiter and s> iner, and V/alnut is by no means exempt from the depletion incident to the ravages of this lawless element.
