Lawrence Lewis, eolored, was seriously injured by the falling of a scaffold at Center Point one dhy last week. Lewis, with a fellow workman was on the scaffold when it gave way and both received se
vere injuries.
Mrs. George Burks, Mrs. A. R. Gray and Dr. Brazier attended the old settlers picnic at Peeksburg. Since the first accounts of the accident which befell Columbus (Tawley at Fern on last Friday another story has come to light. Crawley is now able to talk and tells the following story. He was engaged in hauling logs from Fern station to Barnaby’s mill on that day and in hoisting a log to the wagon the tackle slipped and the log fell back upon him, injuring him in such a manner as to paralyze him for n few hours. No one was with him at the time end he was compelled to lay there all night.

Word was received here today of t 'e death at New Albany last night of Sirs. Poucher, mother of Dr. John Poucher. Dr. I’oucher was at her bedside. The township trustees are in the city today making their reports with the commissioners. The new trustees are going in and old ones going out. Miss Daisy Fee, of Bloomington, who has often visited her uncle, Major Fee, here, had a narrow escape in a runawav accidental Bloomington Friday. She was severely shocked but uninjured. Through an error last week we announced the reunion of the Twentyfirst Indiana Yols. and 1st Heavy Artillery for the 15th and 10th of August. The meeting will be held on August 14 and 15 at Worthington, one dav earlier than the dates announced last week.

In an interview yesterday afternoon he expressed the opinion that the members of the present assembly are not capable of coping with the important questions laid before them at the extra session just concluded, and that it would be folly to call them back for that purpose.

Miller, sup erintendent of the Vandalia and Engineer Downing visited the city and assisted the Greencastle Manufacturing company in locating their plant with a view to getting the best switch facilities. The spot decided on was just south of the Vandalia freight depot. The east line of the factory will run paralled with Crown street. Drew Dickens struck the first blow for the plant cutting down the weeds and willows. Ground will le broken for the foundation this week and the matter of building will be pushed rapidly.
