MORE UNTRUTHFUL REFERENCES.

That Danville List in Emphatically I>«meil by Nine of Them. Not long since the Banner Times |hiUlishei) a list of references used by a traveling dentist at Martinsville In which about fifty of Green, castle’s piominent citizens were represented as having had their teeth extracted by that individual. The list bore the evidences of untruthfulness on its face from the fact that it not only contained the name of one party deceased but it also held the names of several of our accomplished dentists. The Banner Times asked several about it and they at one pionounced the statement as absurd and untruth ful, and several were indignant from the fact that they were well known in Martinsville where many of our citizens visit. The doctor’s name attached to the ad. was M

E. Blair.

On yesterday the Banner Times was given an ad. and the city was flooded with hand bills giving a large list of Danville people who

olliee.

Tne “kid” band from North Salem is making the music for the fair this year. The sixteen members are all under sixteen years old except the leader. They make

good music.

The wild west show covers most of the west end of the fair grounds. Everybody will want to see the cow boys in their reckless riding

and shooting.

The crowd on the grounds today is the largest Wednesday crowd that we have ever had, and the indications point to a record breaker for the rest of the week. On account of the space being all taken up with stands, shows, etc., the ball game was played on the inner circle. ORATORICAL CONTEST. The oratorical contest was held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday afternoon in the amphitbeatie. A large crowd enjoyed one of the closest and best contests ever held at the Putnam county fair. Mrs Lidia Wilkinson presided and Rev. Hostetler announced the decision of the judges. The lirst speaker was Mr. John Priest, of Bainbridge. His subject was “Our Duty to Education.” He said that the child’s parents are as much responsible for its education as the school teacher. The parents must provide good reading and good oecu pat ions outside of school in order to continue the work started by the teacher. His speech was a plea for more etficient education in gen eral. The second speaker was Miss May Buchanan, of New Maysville, speaking on the topic of “Knowledge Must be Earned.” The more knowledge we have, the more we wish to have. Gain knowledge in youth and use it rightly. The third speaker was Miss Beriha Watkins, of New Maysville, speaking on the subject “He who would make a Golden Gate must bring a nail to stay it.” Every one wants to make a Golden Gate. As God has no fellowship with Satan, we must drop Satan to get to heaven. We cannot build our gate at once but must bring our nails every day. Our gate cannot be torn down wln-n once built. Mr. J. Elmer Thomas of Greencastle, was number four. He spoke on the subject of “Fine Arts in America.” He said that a history of art is really a history ol civilization. Our fine arts, place us in the front rank of nations as they raise our standard of cultuie and morality. It was an excellent
