James Hamilton, who gntt’ered the amputation of an arm several weeks ago, was able to drive through to Crawfordsville today. Misses Nellie Leech, of Tallapoosa, | Ga., and Edith Rapp, of Ladoga, Did., who have been visiting Miss Maggie Gilmore, left at noon for Ladoga. The three Johns—Cannon, Maloney and Cawley—spent Sunday at the Shades of Death. They returned yesterday with flushes of Montgomery

Grant Newton’s countenance is a wreck. The cause of it was John Wade’s onslaught. Mr. Newton’s face is a horrible sigltt. 'The trouble occurred last night. Mrs. Conrad Cook and Mrs. S. It. Johnson left this morning for Boston, to attend the Y. P. S. C. E. convention, and be the guests of Mrs. J. A. Patton, formerly of this city. Stephen Graham, the fly-trap peddler, writes Marshal Starr that he is in New Albany and prospering, and that he will be here to prosecute the negroes who robbed him somewhat recently.

The constable used greatest precaution but when he arrived at the man’s house the bird had flown and could not be recaged. Col. C. C. Matson was up front Eel river falls at noon and went right hack on the south bound train. He says the party there are catching plenty of fish, many good ones. Reese Matson caught twenty splendid specimens this morning, some of them weighing as high as three pounds. The party will remain as long as the sport lasts, but Mr. Matson will return this week. Mrs. May me Goodwin, nee Hammond, died at three o’clock this morning at the home of her mother, Mrs. Carroll Hammond, corner of College Avenue and Berry street. Mrs. Goodwin was taken sick about a week ago with dysentery, and although very sick her recovery was expected until heart trouble set in, from which she could not tecover. She was about thirty years of age and leaves a husband and one child. Las' evening at her home on west I’oplar street Miss Edith Mae Morris entertained a large number of her friends in a most elegant manner. Early in the evening the parlors and lawns were tilled with guests, who for more than three hours enjoyed games, amusements and refreshments, which the Morris family know well how to provide. Mrs. Siler and Mr. Dowden took novel prizes in a guessing contest. Those present fr.tsn the city ami the university were Messrs. Lallincs, Marquis, C. Alien, Hall, J. Morris, Dowden. G. Morris, and Misses A. and X. Smythe. Xeal, Bridges, F. Arnold. Williamson and Mrs. Siler. Those present from abroad were Misses Lena and Belle Faught, of Indianapolis, and Messrs. Appleton and Sagebeil, of Day-
ton, Ohio.
