Buskirk and son came up from Bloomington at noon to visit Mrs. Buskirk’g parents, Mr. and Mrs. .las. Mel). Hays. J. W. Cole was badly shaken up yesterday by a frightened horse. He suffered no broken bones, but was rendered very sore in the struggle. The members of the Woman’s Home Missionary society of College Avenue M. K. church are cordially invited to attend the reception given at the Presbyterian church, by the ladies of the Foreign Missionary society on Friday afternoon, May 3, at two o’clock. Marshal Starr visited the Indianapolis jail Yesterday, where Fierce and McGullin, the Greencastle fellows, are held. Mr. Starr talked with the men, and thinks they are held as witnesses against Bresnahati more than for any, other reason. The injured man, it is

Joseph Dillon, who, with his wife, was injured in the Vaudulia wreck at Coatesville twelve weeks ago, lias received $10,000 from the railroad company in compensation. Dillon was advance agent for an opera company which was playing in St. Louis at the

time the wreck occurred.

On Memorial Sunday the G. A. R. post of this city has been invited toatten.l the College Avenue church where Dr. .1. II. Hollingsworth will deliver the Memorial sermon. It will be given in place of the regular morning service and will also supplant the usual Sunday

afternoon memorial services.

The dollar telephone idea is a popular one that should meet with encouragement by our citizens. A dollar ran is as low as the instruments are furnished in many places where a lively war is on. and the disposition of the Df, company to give its lowest rate should he encouraged. Canvassers are at work trying to secure the necessary number. In 1840 a man by the name of Thompson was killed by a Rynerson. in 1S41 Rynerson was hung, and while awaiting judgment he made a confession, which was printed in pamphlet form. The Putnam Coc.nty Historical society desires a copy of the same, and any one Yvho lias preserved a copy will confer a favor by leaving it at this office, where it will be copied and carefully returned.

The Japanese boys of the university, Mes-rs. Takasugi, Kudo and Yamaguchi, will give a unique and interesting entertainment in Meharry hall next Monday evening for the benetit of the missionary fund. The wood-earving class lias received another large box from Brazil of articles worked out ready for carving. The Brazil mill is giving good satisfaction with its art work. Mr. Walter Howe Jones and the DePauw Quartette will give a concert at Terte Haute on Friday evening of this week. The Terre Haute management requests that the pianist appear three times on the program in place of the rather customary tYvice.
