Hoover left yesterday afternoon few days’ visit at Searcy, Ark. Mrs. Rodgers, of Gosport, is in the city, having been called here by the illness of her sister, Mrs. H. C. Lewis. Mrs. Fred White, who has been visiting at Danville, returned yesterday. Stie was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Xeiger. The city meat merchants completed arrangements today by which the price of steaks and all choice cuts arc raisid 2 1 cents per pound. Superintendent of Maintenance of Way Downing, of the Vandalia, was here yesterday afternoon inspecting t ie road and switches. The Oakalla Brick, Stone and Lime company has stopped operations at their quarry at Oakalla. They have a large amount of stone on hand with no

Nelson, will today make another settlement with creditors of twenty .per cent. This is in addition to the first one of twenty-one percent. He filed all ids deeds today in the land transfers, recently made. There will be one more

Mrs. It. A. <>gg entertained a large number of her lady friends yesterday afternoon at her elegant new house, 014 smith Locust street. The afternoon was one of pleasure to those attending, and the guests report a charming time. The affair was billed on the invitations as a thimble party, and the visitors took their thimbles ana work. One of the guests expressed the sentiment of the party when in departing she said, “as a delightful social event the party lias been a decided success, but* in needlework it has been a failure,” her remark showing that they had been so well and pleasantly entertained that they forgot to manipulate tlieir thim-
