Pleasant, Pa., by a telegram announcing the sudden deatli of her mother, Mrs.

The Monou is putting in a stone walk from Thompson's corner to the depot platform in north Greencastle. The ’mprovement is a much-needed one, and will be hailed with delight by those who frequent the depot. Mrs. Lee, wife of Capt. Jesse Lee, of the Ninth Infantry of the United States regular army, is in the city, the guest of the family of Col. \V. R. Thompson. Capt. Lee will be here today to stay over Sunday. — Terre Haute Express. The funeral services of Mrs. O. W. Beckwith will take place at the residence of B. F. Beckwith, No. 305, north Jackson street, tomorrow afternoon at 1:30. Services conducted by Rev. A. H. Morris. Friends of the family invited. Here is a refreshing item clipped from the Hendricks County Gazette: There is a possibility that the Big Four and the New Monon will build a new station at Greencactle Junction, to take the place of the old one that has stood there
for years.
Evangelist Ostrum and Harry Maxwell have been engaged for the Battle Ground camp meeting this summer. This will close Mr. Max well’s engagement with Mr. Ostrum and he will probably locate in New York, where he has a number of good oilers.—Crawfordsville

A few citizens and farmers met at the court house this afternoon at 2:30 to see what assistance could be given the Nebraska sufferers. It was decided to send committees through the county and solicit eurii, and a load will probubl) be sent in a few days. Several contributions have already been received. It is understood that John VV. Cravens of the “World” will be appointed registrar of Indiana university, the position filled by II. S. Bates at the time of his death. Mr. Cravens is thoroughly competent, and would make a popular and efficient registrar. It is said that there nre about thirty applicants.—Bloomington Progress. ’Squire Henry Dickerson, of Jackson township, was in the city this morning, and had been about tile court house but about ten min utes when he was initiated into the mysteries of that “Consummate and Persistent Order of Losers,” and put up an initiation fee of fifteen dollars as a starter. He had his pocket book out near the court house door, and then it disappeared as mysteriously as anything could. Mr. Dickerson is now a member of tiie society, but he can ill attbrd to spare the cash.

Miss Homer, of Terre Haute, visited Misses Lailines and Lyman yesterday. K. V. Kibbie is confined to his room on account of sickness. B. C Norton is in Terre Haute today on Mirage business. He returned yesterday from northern Indiana. Miss Amelia DeMotte, of Indianapolis, is the guest of her cousin, Miss Pet Mahan, at the Crouch house. The parallel bars have arrived from Indianapolis for the gymnasium exhibition. No one can afford to miss this entertainment, to be given next Monday night, for at least three reasons: It is worth the money, as an extiibition will help pay the debts of the Athletic association and give permanent encouragement for a gymnasium. Miss Miller will spend Sunday in In-
dianapolis.
C. W. Crooke went to Worthington Thursday to attend the funeral of Ins cousin, Miss Ada Crooke, who is known to a number of DePauw people. Ed. Trippier is attending North Indiana conference at Logansport. Mr. Daugherty, of Hie preparatory school, wears Sigma Nu colors. T. N. Ewing left at noon for ids home in Areola, 111., to attend the marriage of a brother. The James class people are around college today in their sweaters advertising the exhibition for Monday night.
