Statistics on the reasonable expectancy of life indicate that if a man is a drunkard at twenty he will live fifteen years longer. If sober he has forty four more years to live remaining under the same conditions are fourteen and thirtysix. If a man is a drunkard at his fortieth year, he cannot reasonably hope to live to he older than fiftyone. But is he is temperate at that age the expectancy of life extends to sixty-nine. This makes an interesting temperance lecture. Be it remembered that “by a very simple rule the duration of night and day can he determined at an}’ time of the year. All you have to do is to multiply the time of the sun’s rising by two and it will give you the length of the night. Multiply the time of setting by two and it will give you the length of the day. It is easily demonstated at the time of the year when the sun rises and sets at 6 o’clock, and the days and nights are of equal duration. It is just as true when the days lengthen and shorten. Thus as winter approaches, take a day when the sun rises at 0:30 and sets at T) :3(). Apply the rule and }’ou have a night of thirteen hours and a day of eleven hours.”

A gentlem m in good standing in the university became impressed last Friday afternoon that it would be a splendid joke if he could attend the Pan Thugaterian banquet. To this end, he converted himself for the time being into a colored woman. Upon his arrival. however, he was soon detected by his size and was asked, not without authority, to betake himself hence, which he did without further discussion. But tills was not the end of the joke. Some parties became incensed, and placed the matter before the president. Gossip then had it that the gentleman was uo longer a student of the university. The students, recognizing tne whole affair as a practical joke, and fearing that such definite action bad been taken, circulated a petition for reconsideration, which was signed by most every student in the university. When the committee which was to present the petition interviewed the president, it was found that most all reports were mere rumors and had no foundation. Suffice it to say, however, that tlie boys will not attempt to attend the Pan Thug next year. A “Poly” and a Wabash college student came to arms the other day over a Wabash conundrum on Coates college. Wabash student—Say, Danvers, what a bashful thing a Coates college student is.
